Acquired a Beretta M9 last week and took it to the range this afternoon. Fired 100 rounds of Winchester 115gr FMJ with no failures. Pretty pleased with the gun - very different from the single-action pistols I've been used to shooting, but not bad. I don't have the strongest wrists in the world so I found the double-action trigger pull quite heavy - naturally, my best group was a string fired all in double-action. I think having to slow down because the heavy DA pull probably helped. The SA pull isn't anything like my 1911 and I haven't quite figured it out. Need more trigger time.

One clear advantage the M9 has over the 1911 - it's a whole lot easier to reassemble!

I love the 92 platform. I have nine, and actually sol off my 1911s last year,as I only shot the Berettas on every trip.

Congrats!

In DA mode, the Beretta trigger seems to stack quite a lot right at the end. I'm not even sure how to describe what it's doing in SA mode. Maybe someone experienced with both the M9 and 1911 can explain what's going on and why?

Check out Shipwreck's Wheel of Beretta if you can find it (you'll know it when you see it). It's quite impressive.

I have seen and admired the Wheel of Berettas many times. Now he needs to replicate it in INOX. ;)

The Beretta's DA trigger pull is actually pretty good IMO. I don't really like the Beretta but honestly the triggers are nice and smooth.

Cool. The 92FS/M9 DA pull is heavy. SA is very nice. Great gun. Enjoy.

I didn't think it was that heavy...then again I am an owner of a CZ70, Hungarian PA63, and a Polish P64 so maybe I've just gotten used to heavy triggers.

I carry a 92FS on duty every day (except when I'm off, like today :neener:). My unit was given to me brand-new, and so far I've put some 2000 rds through it, either at my qualifications at work (we qualify every three months) or by myself, at the range. I feel so comfortable with it. I find it an outstanding service platform despite its size. With a duty belt on, it's not the most comfortable when you sit inside a car, but I have sorted this out with a holster (Vega) that I can flip frontwards so it doesn't bother me when driving.

DA pull is long and heavy, that's true. It's the only drawback I see to this pistol but you can solve it through practice, practice, and more practice.

Apologies for bumping an old thread, but it's my old thread so I guess it's OK. ;) Although my M9 is primarily a range gun, I decided I liked it enough to set it up as an occasional carry gun and for home defense. That meant acquiring a holster and good defensive ammunition.

The holster is the Bianchi M12, standard military holster for the M9 pistol. At the moment it's still wearing the flap, and although I have a thumb strap en route, I don't have any problem opening the flap and drawing the pistol. The M12 will never be confused for a concealment holster, but if you don't mind carrying openly (whether on the street, at home, or in the woods) I think it's a good choice.

As for the ammo, I had heard that the Beretta will eat about anything and that's it's particularly fond of Speer Gold Dots. Fortunately, I found a good deal on Gold Dots of the 124gr standard pressure variety, so I bought a quantity and today I ran 128 rounds through the pistol. That's four 15-round magazines, topped off after chambering a round, run through twice each. There were no failures of any kind, although one round did sound a little weaker than the others.

I'm not going to stop using my 1911 as my primary carry gun any time soon, but the big Beretta continues to impress.

Think about swapping in a 92D mainspring to help ease the DA trigger pull -- makes a big difference.

I used to be confused on why you would want so many of pretty much the same gun (with slight variations), then I stated collecting CZ 75's and I completely get it. Now it's my wife who is confused (and in my case, a little angry).

Anyhow - OP, congrats on your M9. My 92F is a great gun. Buy yourself a reduced power hammer spring (D spring) and it will tame that heavy DA trigger pull.

Yes, it can become addicting.

I've actually owned just about everything at 1 time or another. Got back into the 92 AGAIN, and just got hooked. Decided I didn't like anything as much. Started buying doubles so I could have an extra gun to save - to pass on to my son one day when he is older. Sorta just kept doing that with each 92 variant...

So, I have one to beat to hell, and the other to save :)

The previous post from Hacker is absolutely correct. Changing out the factory mainspring for the D spring makes a difference. Try it, you'll like it.

I know you've carried your Beretta's in a Comp-Tac IWB holster. How much holster wear has that put on your "beat to hell" pistol? Do you have a picture? I do like the look of a well worn pistol.

my 92 brigadier is easily my favorite 9mm. keep trying smaller guns thinking I'll find something I like better. keep coming up short

Yes - I have a pic from a year ago - posted below.

A polymer holster only wears in 3 or 4 spots, however. Leather holsters wear much more.

I am actually surprised how well mine looks after about 2.5 years of IWB carry

M9s and 92FSs are in short supply in CA due to a scarcity of 10 round mags (so they say). I am about to put down some money for an M9...not sure how long of a wait it will be :( Thanks for sharing!
