Beretta M9 range report

Acquired a Beretta M9 last week and took it to the range this afternoon. Fired 100 rounds of Winchester 115gr FMJ with no failures. Pretty pleased with the gun - very different from the single-action pistols I've been used to shooting, but not bad. I don't have the strongest wrists in the world so I found the double-action trigger pull quite heavy - naturally, my best group was a string fired all in double-action. I think having to slow down because the heavy DA pull probably helped. The SA pull isn't anything like my 1911 and I haven't quite figured it out. Need more trigger time.

One clear advantage the M9 has over the 1911 - it's a whole lot easier to reassemble!

In DA mode, the Beretta trigger seems to stack quite a lot right at the end. I'm not even sure how to describe what it's doing in SA mode. Maybe someone experienced with both the M9 and 1911 can explain what's going on and why?

I have seen and admired the Wheel of Berettas many times. Now he needs to replicate it in INOX.

Apologies for bumping an old thread, but it's my old thread so I guess it's OK. Although my M9 is primarily a range gun, I decided I liked it enough to set it up as an occasional carry gun and for home defense. That meant acquiring a holster and good defensive ammunition.

The holster is the Bianchi M12, standard military holster for the M9 pistol. At the moment it's still wearing the flap, and although I have a thumb strap en route, I don't have any problem opening the flap and drawing the pistol. The M12 will never be confused for a concealment holster, but if you don't mind carrying openly (whether on the street, at home, or in the woods) I think it's a good choice.

As for the ammo, I had heard that the Beretta will eat about anything and that's it's particularly fond of Speer Gold Dots. Fortunately, I found a good deal on Gold Dots of the 124gr standard pressure variety, so I bought a quantity and today I ran 128 rounds through the pistol. That's four 15-round magazines, topped off after chambering a round, run through twice each. There were no failures of any kind, although one round did sound a little weaker than the others.

I'm not going to stop using my 1911 as my primary carry gun any time soon, but the big Beretta continues to impress.
