The 4th of July? And he wants to shoot some of the Hollow Point Bullets into the pool he has to see how they expand from his gun. And since it is the 4th, There will be a lot of noise going on from fireworks so not a whole lot of people will probably pay attention to it.

Power Pistol is good for the 9mm. And I set mine down to 1.100 as well for my gun. I get some pretty good results from it. But I use 124 Gr HP in my gun with Universal.

My best suggestion to you is that start low and work your way up. Make 5 rounds of the start charge and then increase it by .02 for the next 5 rounds. If you see any pressure signs, Stop and back down a bit. If they cycle your gun well and you get good accuracy and function, Then you should be good with that unless you just like hot loads.

I would guess that something less than either will work best in a 9mm with stock recoil springs.

I have worked up to 147 gr XTP 9.4 gr Power Pistol 1.169"and then the primer pierced.

But I know from Power Pistol 158 gr 1.169 that is pierces the primer at 8 gr, but if I resized the loaded ammo, I can work up to 11 gr, when the case is full. That is in a throated P11 with case support to .190". The trick is to not let the bullet squish under the brass by compressing powder. I don't want the bullet to be stuck. It needs to be free to start moving. Any delay makes a pressure spike.
Three shots of that and my hand hurts for hours.

So I could probably get the 147 gr bullets to work up all the way to 11 gr, the max that will fit, but I have not done it.

If I remember right the 147 xtp is a boat tail bullet, at least it seems that I had some that were way back when. IIRC this bullet was longer than a normal 147 hp bullet. If that is the case then you will have more bullet in the case than with a normal HP bullet and have to adjust the charge accordingly.

When I was loading the 147's for shooting PPC, I used 4.2gr of WSF.
At the time (mid 90's), Precision Delta was using 4.2gr and the XTP bullet. Another company at the time, (Anderson Cart.), was likewise using 4.5gr for over 1,000fps from a 5"bbl. But, the Precision Delta had a slightly better reputation for winning matches. The Anderson ammo was used by a number of agencies as their issue load and had a loyal following. Both companies were using proprietary stamped Starline brass and Winchester small-pistol primers...
In other matches than the National's, where ammo was inspected, I used "Mexican" match.... I reloaded the Starline brass with above mentioned load to duplicate the factory ammo at a much lower price. The owner of P-D would sell me the Hornady bullets in the bulk boxes he got them in from Hornady which made it "affordable" to shoot..... I don't shoot the Hornady's any more due to high cost of XTP's which are now only available in boxes of 100 to reloaders....

I had a custom M1911 that prefered the 147gr loads.
I switched to 115's when I switched to S&W Perf.Ctr guns as that's what they were "tuned" for at the factory. With current cost of lead and shipping, the 115's are much cheaper to shoot now, and thats what drives my choice.

The 147gr XTP's exand well at 950fps. From a shorty 9, I'd use a lighter bullet as at less than 900fps the 147gr bullets don't expand much. But, then again, you're essentially shooting a high cap. .38spl which with adequate shot placement works well.

Accuracy trumps expansion.....

I haven't tried Power Pistol as yet, but I do load those 147 gr. XTP's with HS6 and Longshot with excellent results. My OAL I use in several of my 9mm's is also 1.100" with the 147 XTP's, which consistently functions reliably. Longshot and HS6 have been keeping velocity in the 1050 fps range with no pressure issues what so ever. A test into a card board box lined with a plastic trash bag filled with water, and rolled up water soaked denim produces consistent expansion and almost 16" of penetration.

But because reloading is a constant and on going hobby and pasion to find the best load, as per our desired performance expectations, I am going to give Power Pistol a go. That is, as soon as I use up all the HS6 and Longshot still in back stock.

FYI, since you are using a jacketed bullet with a BT, it is unnecessary to bell the case mouths or apply a crimp. Saves a lot of time and also provides maximum neck tension!!
