Ammos that are plentiful inspite of Ammo Scare

Haven't seen any real shortage or price gouging on 7.62x54R. Got a spam can last week for the same price I could've gotten it for 6 months ago.

Well the way I see it is that that ammo is actually plentiful, it's just in the hands of the end-user now (pretty much), not in stores or supply lines.

It's the only rifle caliber one of the wholesalers I have access to inventory on, that is actually still in stock.

Handgun ammo is still in good supply at wholesalers.

This being said, given what's going on it might not be a bad idea to pick up some if you're low. You know.. while it's still in good supply.

Still haven't been to a store since Sandy, it sounds like I am way late to the party but is .22LR really sold out most place??

I haven't seen any of the local shops to me sell out of 22LR yet, but don't know what neck of the woods you're in.

I was at Dick's this morning and they have an ample supply of 9mm, .40 S&W and .38 Special.
I was after Remington 9mm's but they were sold out so I setteled for two boxes (50 rds ea) of American Eagle Stuff.
A few weeks ago Dick's had Rem's on sale for $12.00/50 which I thought was a good buy.
I reload for the .38's so shooting to my hearts content is not a problem.
I like the 9 Mikes too!

The Cabela's near me in PA has a ton of .22lr. Trying to find primers on the other hand was no simple task! I bought a few boxes of 30 30 at Wally World on Sunday and there were plenty more on the shelf. There was plenty of 12ga target loads, but no 20ga. I couldn't find any buckshot though. Not long until people resort back to "cut" shells... haha

That doesn't help me though when the only .45 ammo in stores are JHPs in 20rd boxes kinda expensive to shoot that stuff during a fun day at the range.

I'm heading to my local dealer later today and to WalMart ... last week all they had left were some revolver ammo and SD rounds in .45 and .40.

Huge difference in what a couple of days make with supply/demand on guns and ammo.

As of Monday there were no .22 rounds to be found anywhere around here. Academy, Dick's( I stopped in to see while the kids were in Petco next door), 2 Wally worlds, all were OOS on .22 and .223. That may change daily as these warehouse stores have product delivered multiple times per week.
Why the mad rush on .22 anyway? I have 5k+ rounds on hand but we can shoot those up in a month easily. Did this happen in 2008? I don't recall stores being out of .22 but maybe I just didn't need any for a while so I didn't notice.

I'm OK on 9mm and .45 but I've been able to buy a couple boxes here and there since the CT shooting. I JUST bought a Ruger 10/22 a few weeks ago, never got around to buying some bulk packages of .22lr and now it sucks. The only .22 in stores I've seen is the overpriced Swamp People .22lr crap and .22 shot shells which do me no good.

What I've learned: I need a .22 magnum or .17hmr bolt rifle, I need a .22lr revolver, and basically any handgun NOT chambered in 9mm, .40, or .45.

Also learned that I should have bought some 25rd mags for my 10/22 immediately after getting it.:banghead:


And reloading is a new priority to get into.

I picked the wrong time to get .22 rifles and a 20 gauge sounds like! Maybe I will need to take a trip (2 hours) to that Cabela's in PA to stock up before they're empty too...

just got back from WalMart and my local firearms dealer (WestCoast Armory in Factoria, WA)...

WalMart was OUT of 9mm / .45ACP range ammo. All gone.
They had one 250rd value pack for .40 S&W left.

JHP was available for 9mm/.40/.45 and they had plenty... but not of any value to me for range time.

.22LR bulk ammo was GONE. nada. just a few "100rd" mini-bricks from Winchester for something like $8 / 100rd. far too expensive.

WestCoast Armory was crazy. The store looked so empty... all "black rifles" on the wall gone except 3 used ARs of which one sold while I was there. Shotguns and 10/22 were pretty much gone too. Just empty walls. There was a very long line for handguns and I think 6-8 people were waiting in line to buy handguns. They did have a CCI bulk pack for .22LR (375rds or so) ... but it came out to around $8/ 100rds as well.

Surprisingly CCI Stingers and CCI Velocitors were available in good supply and the same price as before the panic buying started. So I picked up 100rd Stingers and 50rd Velocitors since I was already there... I always keep a few hundred of these "little plastic boxes" of .22LR high-velocity ammo around as that would be my go to ammo for a worst case scenario... probably decent for SD too if I had to use it.

Man that's crazy. I figure people have gotta run out of money sooner or later. If we're still in a recession then where are people getting all this money to go out and buy arm-fulls of ARs and pallets of ammo??

Few, if any, are buying that much.

What we are seeing is the many United States residents who own guns, or want to own guns, voting with their wallets.

The next time somebody pretending to be a 2A or gun rights supporter admits defeat...before battle has even been joined in earnest...and proclaims that there will be some kind of a ban, remind them of just how many people in this country wouldn't be happy with that...and how the legislature cares about their votes

I'd love to know the breakdown of how many are first time buyers in this present panic. From what I've been hearing (pure scuttlebutt) the gunshops are awash in people who know diddly about ARs except they gotta have one NOW!

I got my first handgun in Nov '08 () and have since spent a lot of time in gunshops & at the range. It's been my observation that a LOT of newbies have joined our ranks in the past four years with a goodly portion of them women. Easy to spot at the range. The n00bs generally have an ear to ear grin.

Definitely Plenty of 45 colt out there

No 22lr anywhere here. I picked up 6 bricks Saturday, (2400 round total) and haven't seen any since. Thankfully I already had a few thousand on hand. I mostly shoot 22lr and 9mm. What I picked up should hold me for 6 months or so until this all dies down.

Wally world is completely sold out of everything, but Palmetto Armory still has a good stock of most things except 22lr and 223

From what I have seen and heard there are a lot of first time buyers, and not just of rifles that were banned under the 1994 AWB. When I was in an LGS recently the guy buying a gun as I walked up to the counter was getting a Glock, and it was his first gun

One of our local stores had to put a sign up on the 9x18 makarov ammo stating that it would not work in 9x19/9mm luger/9mm parabellum/etc. They were having lots of people trying to return.

The range I belong to also has a pretty well stocked gun shop and I always cruise by the used & consignment case when I go there. Probably 1/2 to 3/4 of the times I go there the staff is helping a person/couple pick their first HD gun.

As for ammo, the .22LR has always been a crapshoot at my local WallyWorld. They get a lot of it in but it sells out quickly.

I wish everybody shared the hate for the Remington Golden bulk. It works great in all my rimfires.
