You obviously haven't been shopping for .22lr lately.

Original post was on the 27th. I just checked today. What a difference a few days make. This is crazy! Absolutely crazy.

Just get back from Wally -World and it's empty .. saw afew boxs of 40 S&W and that was it on common ammo.

The Academy sport store here just got a shipment of .223 in, they even had em at the check out lanes.

I stopped in at the local Academy today and they had almost nothing. Only match grade ammo in random calibers but nothing of use to most shooters. Oh and tons of 20 gauge shells.

I honestly haven't had trouble getting any kind of ammo. Sure the 9mm isn't as plentiful but it comes through walmart weekly and leaves as soon as it hits the shelves but if your on your game you can get your share. Also the local pawnshops around here that sell their ammo for a few more bucks a box than wally world is still stocked up for a last resort.

So, when is the best time of day to hit Walmart? Does anyone know when they stock the shelves, generally?

Our local Wally World had 3 or 4 boxes of centerfire/rimfire ammo on the shelves. They had a couple more boxes of some kind of shotgun ammo. I didn't even bother to see what caliber of this was.

Academy has a little more ammo, but even they have been heavily hit.

First thing in the morning, 7ish, give or take. Call and try to get a hold of sporting goods and see if anything came in that morning

I can't believe there is one best time. Last week my local store stocked .22lr about 7 pm...My phone rang, I rang others...It was gone quickly.

I placed an order for .22 from CTD on the 29th and got an email asking me not to call and check the status of the order because this slowed them down. It stated that all employees were coming in early and working late to get caught up. Yesterday I got an email that my order had shipped.
They still show the .22 ammo in stock as of today but they are out of most everything else in .22.

went to walmart this mourning and my local one still had most ammo in stock. they had like 5 sealed cases of standard ball 9mm and I went ahead and bought a case of 1000 made by fed.
The funning thing is when I got home I realized I did not own a 9mm. might make for good trade stuff. Think I better get some 32acp and 380acp and some more 45acp next time.

went to my wallyworld yesterday and they had a bunch of remington 22lr bulk packs (225 per) instead of the normal 525 bulks... walked out with 2250 rounds of plinking ammo... probably should have picked up the other 10 boxes as well... but i wasn't hurting for 22lr... so I figured I leave them and share with the next guy...

My Walmart gets shipments on a daily basis. What will be in them is anybody's guess. Mornings are usually the best time to check. Keep in mind that stocking guns and ammo is not the same as just stocking the shelves. Guns and ammo have to be secured.

Walmart in Alabama this evening. They did have some 9mm FMJ but that was the only pistol ammo. .17 HMR, hunting ammo and some shotgun shells.
Of course there was no employee in the department even if I had needed some 9mm.

Did some gun shop browsing this week. Multiple places had stacks of 9mm and 7.62x39. Just picked up a few boxes of 9mm for the wife on the way home from work tonight. What is still running low is .223. It is out there but certainly not as plentiful

The Wal-Mart close to my work, which is fricking huge, had no 45 ACP in FMJ (just some expensive JHP SD rounds, and not many), had several bozes of WInchester 22 LR in 555 so I bought two. Takes me to 5500 rounds and I have one Ruger 10/22 total so I think that will do...

.22LR is the only ammo I really worry about as far as long or short term shortages. I shoot a lot of 9mm and a decent amount of .380 but I have enough of those to last me a while with a little bit of caution. 5.45, .223, 7.62x39 and 54 I shoot purely for funsies and targets so I can, thoeretically anyway, go without that ammo for a while. 2,000 rounds of .22 can easily be gone in a weekend since we shoot so many different guns in that caliber. If the current shortage on ammo lasts 6 months I would be in trouble on .380 and .223 and .22. I just bought a bunch of .22 from CTD, should arrive tomorrow based on the UPS tracking data, but a "bunch" of .22 is relative.

I wish that people would not do stuff like this.

A few years ago it dawned upon me that ammo and it's components were never going to go down in price......so I stocked up at that time. Then I add to it all when I see deals.
If you are just now buying, it's been too late for quite awhile.
.

I got all my ammo from Graf's on Monday. 5.45, 6.5x55 and 7.62x39. The order from STD showed up today. 5,000 rounds of .22lr, .223 hunting ammo and a couple of pistol mags. I really need some bulk .223 but that will have to wait I guess.
