What would you guys think if any mag over 10 rounds was serial numbered, & owners who passed a backround check were issued a permit,can go online,or to a store,put in permit number, buy any mag they want.Serial number registered in owners name.Existing mags can be serial numbered & added to permit.It would at least save the guns targeted on the list from being banned;you do have to admit, any nutjob can buy 3 50 rd mags for a ruger 10/22 load them up & cause serious damage..We do have to do something to keep these mags out of the hands of crimminals.sbr's & class 3 is federally regulated & has been for years,i dont think the threat of confiscation is there?We do have to do something;if it was any of our kids in that school,or relatives in that movie theater,or that campus, we might not be on this forum right now.Do you think its reasonable,outragous? ...

And when there are future mass killings with low cap mags (not even taking Columbine and others into consideration), then what? Lower the capacity again? Your suggestion is the first step to banning them outright. How about addressing the underlying problem rather than trying to mask some symptom with initiatives that are just as cosmetic as the features they're trying to ban.

Have you ever tried IPSC? With a little practice you can reload a new magazine before the empty one hits the ground. Limiting “high capacity magazines” has only one goal. Disarming the people. Today they limit the number of rounds to 7, tomorrow they will leave you only a single shot black powder musket, next week they will start confiscating knives.

You are very honest in this answer. We are all trying to find the answer. Many solutions put forth are with good intentions, but won't solve the issue of violence in our society.
Our nation I fear will not have the courage to do what is necessary to stop it either. The steps would include personal responsibility, family, and God to be the focus of our society.

Your desperation is because you are looking at guns as being the problem. The problem is not guns.
The problem is the person who uses a gun to commit a heinous act. Focus on the person being the problem will get you further along to realizing that murder will always plague the human race. Always has and always will. There is no answer.
Murder is not a problem in all nations, but it's has little to do with guns. Take away all the guns in America and we still have a higher homicide rate than most other modern industrialized nations. Something else is different than just the guns...

Has anyone who's ever actually shot a gun and reloaded "on the clock" believed for a second that limiting mag capacity will keep someone from murdering someone -- or lots of someones?
Seriously...when you have thoughts like this, stop and ponder the reality of what you're proposing. Surely the math just doesn't add up? A mag change takes somewhere between 1.5 and 3 seconds. Is an additional 1.5-3 seconds the difference between a mass murder and NOT a mass murder?
Think about it this way...if it took only 10 minutes for the first police officer to arrive at Sandy Hook (and actually to stop the attack) after Lanza took his first shot, the killer could have reloaded over THREE HUNDRED TIMES.
Now how good does a mag limit sound? Real impressive? Or more like panicked, hand-wringing, pandering, vapid, and probably a deliberate red herring?
