While I like the idea, this will not do much for our cause. You have to stop and think for a moment. Will marching on DC with a firearm change the minds of those that are against us? Probably not, in fact it will probably backfire. The government will catch wind of what is happening and they will have armed resistance in place. Are you prepared for that?

Try some other tactics such as taking people that are on the fence to the shooting range. Show them how much fun it is to shoot an AR or an AK. Talk to your pro-gun friends and get them to write their representatives and join a pro-gun organization.

Something folks need to get real clear on, real quick:

The benefit of the doubt, and the presumption of peacefulness is traditionally extended to protest marches, which are traditionally unarmed.

The presumptions concerning armed formations are entirely different.

Armed formations marching into town are presumed to mean business, as in "call out the national guard to put down the insurrection."

War is not a game, it is not a parade, and you don't play war unless you mean it, any more than you'd wave your sidearm around in public.

Open confrontation is what they want. Remember most of the media is there friend.
What they don't want is the constant pressure of letters, phone call, emails, and reasoned arguments be they public or private.
None in congress wants to be defeated and have to get a real job.

Guerrilla actions are better than open confrontations.

I think lobbying in Washington, lobbying for federal court judge positions and lobbying at the state levels may be the most effective ... so continue to donate/support the NRA.

The fact that 911/police can't help the home owners at the time of home invasion helps our argument as this fact will never change ... and may help expanded CCW permit issue ... I think some/most crimes rose from 2011 to 2012 in most metropolitan cities which will irritate antis as more people will be concerned with safety and decreased/lack of police protection. Know any police department that significantly increased their police force? I can't.

All the gun owners I know (family/friends/neighbors/coworkers) are so pissed right now they have all committed to attending future marches/protests, even to include driving several hours to the state capitol. We are keeping each other well informed via emails/texts ...Whenever we have a free moment, we write/email/call our law makers in calm/reasonable demeanor ... I love unlimited cellphone call/text plans!

We are introducing and helping train large number of new shooters to guns and our wives and female coworkers are involved in lessening the initial fear of guns. When women ( there's a public viewing room at the range) see a group of female shooters competently handle guns and having a good time, they readily approach them and ask ... "Of course we will help you. Come, we will show you how right now" . I have spent just about every weekend the past month train new shooters my family/friends/neighbors/coworker have referred and I make sure to tell them about the CCW process and supporting the NRA.

And aside from anything else, WashDC's anti-gun laws prevented US Senator Ted Cruz of Texas from bringing an AR into the Capitol for a hearing so he could explain how they functioned. He had to use charts and pictures.

Best to maintain the pressure via card/letters/email/FAXes/phone.

We've already had this discussion and the fact that it would do only harm to our cause was the conclusion. It is illegal to carry firearms in DC and it achieves nothing that an empty holster march wouldn't achieve without the negatives. It is also questionable as to how it would be covered and the coordination isn't there.

When a bill actually makes it out of committee AFTER we've put at least that much effort into opposing it through normal means and before the floor vote is to take place is when civil disobedience is appropriate.

Seriously? What a terrible idea! So far, we're winning. The gun grabbers are losing. While it sucks to be in one of the states that's trending away from the rest of the country, on a national level the pressure from the right is working.

The antis are generally big-gov types; big-gov types are better at messaging and have an easier-to-sell message to begin with (free stuff trumps free-dom for an awful lot of people). They could be simply content to make us think we're winning. Vigilance!

A few thousand people marching across D.C. with either empty holsters or an empty sling across their shoulders would be considered a political statement.Several k people marching ANYWHERE with rifles, let alone the nation's capitol would look like an attempt at a coup. There's no way a government would see it otherwise. If you're going to threaten then you'd better bloody well be sure you're ready for them to call your bluff.

I think you'd be a lot more sucessful if you got a few thousand people to hit a mexican buffet the night before, march onto the lawn, drop trou' and leave an opinion on the ground.

Same idea could be obtained with carrying say, straw brooms? Looking out the window of a Congressional office, and seeing thousands of strawbrooms, handle high up in air. Looks like ____?

It's hard to be patient. It would feel good to DO something. We have to choose wisely, though. Our plans must be graceful, our movements precise. We need to play the long game.

• write endless letters to congressmen
• write letters to the newspapers
• take friends to the range and introduce new shooters
• be a gun owner, be visible, be upstanding, be level-headed, be an example that debunks everything the anti's say to demonize us.

They've ramrodded through everything the cowardly Repubicans would allow. And that's a lot!

...Remember ObamaCare. Yes, lots of letters, faxes, emails, phone calls. And I'd do it all again. Horse & Pony show hearings, then a rules change and a FINAL VOTE on the WEEKEND WHEN WE THE PEOPLE COULDNT EVEN CALL THE OFFICE.

God forbid they had to listen to the people. Might harm their conscience.
