Ever denied a toy(NFA stamp) by Santa Claus(ATF)?

As the title says, has anybody here ever sent off for a tax stamp and gotten denied for a reason other than a error in paperwork that could be fixed? If so, do they ever give an explanation? Even further, do they give you a chance to fix whatever it was why you were denied a stamp or is that the final word forever?
I have about 30 days til mine should be here as far as I know judging by NFAtracker.com. I am getting excited but also worried that they would wait all this time and then say no. I have no arrests and no reason to think I would be denied but I am getting really anxious.

My only issue was a manufacturer mixed up an I with a 1 in a serial number. My can had been registered with a different serial number than the ATF. They sorted it out quickly. I expected another 8 month wait but in was done in about a week.
 
They denied me after 8 months for bad fingerprints. I have really, really faint fingerprints and always have issues. I resubmitted prints (5 sets and a letter from the sherrif's deputy that did two of the sets) and had my stamp a few weeks later. The folks I spoke to on the phone at ATF were courteous and helpful.
 
I knew a relative that was told that fingerprints were smudged and not acceptable. Basically, he was delayed for a couple more weeks. He did have to pay for new prints...lol.

My last 2 cans were denied because my dealer didn't put "Inc." after his business name. Both were sent back corrected and got them back in 2 weeks.
My dealer showed me about 20 form's signed by the same inspector that went through without the " Inc." after his name. guess the inspector had a hair up his ass the day my papers went though, and both last transfers took over 6 months to process.
 
So far only small technical errors with relatively easy fixes with a minimal delay.

Oddly, that makes perfect sense to me. Law abiding citizens go though the system, file the proper paperwork and are likely always approved. Criminals are by definition unconcerned with the laws and would not bother with filing paperwork that would be eventually denied. I would venture a guess that with the exception of someone who had problems so far back in their past that it was forgotten, everyone is always approved.

Certainly begs the question of what’s the point in the process?

Ummm...... I think arrest and court records aren't ever "forgotten."

Dragging it out to make us wriggle in agony is more like it.

I just wonder how long they take to do their research and approve the stamp. Like the actual time taken not the six month wait. Can they do this in a few minutes, hours, etc.

If I told my customers that they would have to wait for six months, I can't imagine having anybody wait that long no matter how great a job I do.

My conceal permit seemed to only take a few weeks if I remember correctly. I would think that more conceal permits are being looked at that tax stamps are being done.
How are they able to have such a shorter turn around time for conceal permits over tax stamps?
 
I told Santa about a lot of stuff but think that talking about it may be like telling some one about your birthday wish.

Have had a "hold" put on approval but never rejected.
 
Just some notes in case nobody knows.

The $200 goes to the US treasury. The BATFE doesn't get a dime.

Your forms are assigned a box depending on the cash date of your check and your state, this is PENDING status. There it will literally sit in a cardboard box lined throughout the NFA cubicle halls and it will remain there until 5 months later when your examiner gets to it. Once your form is on his/her desk it only takes a couple minutes to approve it unless there is an issue.

Calling DOES NOT slow down anything as long as you only talk to the customer service rep and NOT ask to be transferred to an examiner. I alwasy wait 1-2 months with a new form and just call the NFA branch and the conversation goes like this....

ATF- hello, how may I help you?
Me- just calling to check on a form4
ATF- go ahead with serial and transferee
Me- silencer, serial 123456 transferring from bobs gun trust to (blank) firearms trust
ATF- It seems your silencer just went pending with Lamberger, we estimate it to be done by August
Me- thanks, have a good one

Don't forget how understaffed they are. You have 12 examiners with a small amount of new hires that have to go through MILLIONS of forms a year.

If you have a problem with a typo and your form is kicked back, don't worry. Just fix it and mail it back. It doesn't go into that lonely cardboard box, it goes back to your examiner and you'll have it approved and in hand within 2 weeks.

I think that sums it up.....
 
I frequently explain to people who want to know about silencers that the BATFE approves any form that is filled out correctly. It is that simple, just fill them out right. :)

Nah, I have nothing that I'm aware of to be worried about. It was just like I questioned it. I just wondered that if all the paperwork is done correctly, what was taking so long for them to OK the stamp. I was under the impression that this whole months long wait, they were "researching" into your past and combing through every detail of your life to find any mundane reason to deny you.

If it only takes them a few minutes to actually approve the stamp, they are basically making $200 for a few minutes worth of work. If I could make $200 in work that only spent a few minutes of my time, I would expedite a way to hire more helpers to bring in more cash at a quicker rate. Their small increase of assistants seems to help but they need like 10X their employees and they would really be raking in the dough. As I mentioned about the conceal permit taking only a few weeks, why the stamp takes so much longer doesn't make sense. If you are clear for your CCP then you should be good for the stamp.

If you could walk into some government office and hand your conceal permit over for verification along with a smaller wait with your $200, they would be taking in much more cash and that's what the government is all about; taking our cash. I know I would have spent much more on several more suppressors for sure. Apparently their need for our money is superseded by their distrust in it's citizens. All this 6+ month wait is doing is weeding out people because they have to wait.
 
There are pictures of the NFA branch showing boxes and boxes full of forms. Most of the time is just waiting due to the backlog.

Yep.

Open felony charges.

No chance to remediate.
 
Pretty sure that is just the staging area for the boxes to be put in the cement bunkers.
That picture is old though so the stacks are probably much taller at this point.
