I am applying for my CCW permit in Connecticut. The application asks have you ever been arrested and to give the location, dates, and nature of the arrests. I was arrested at least twice on some very minor stuff over 25 years ago and the cases were dismissed. I have no idea of what the charges were, (although one involved driving under the influence and the other was caused by an error in a state unemployment compensation revenue program), where the arrests took place (both were on the highway) and even what year they were. What I have stated here is all that I can remember about these events.

If I say this on the form, could that be grounds to deny my application? I have not been convicted of anything. I hope I don't need a lawyer just to fill out the form. Thanking you guys in advance for any assistance.

Welcome aboard Peace. I am from CT as well. I would recommend contacting the police in the towns you were arrested in, and ask for a rap sheet. That way you can put down exactly what the charges were and not leave anything to chance. I have had 1 DWI and other misdemeanor charges in my past and that did not affect my getting a permit, so you should be okay there. Dot your I's and cross your T's. The extra footwork will be worth it.

Or you could seek refuge from CT and breathe the (relatively much more) free, cleaner air up here in NH, just as long as you promise to vote pro-gun and anti-tax.;)

Hold on there LibertyLover... We need all the progun people we can get here in CT. There should not be a problem for Peace to get the CT permit... BTW, I have my NH out of state as well!

Don't lie and don't omit information. Try to track down the details. If you can't provide them, it might cause problems with your application. If you can't track down the details, at least be as complete as possible in your application.

Just make sure your upfront about it misrepresenting it on the app may in its self be deemed enough for denial

Good advice to have a background check run on yourself in the county things happened in. Here in Illinois you would pretty much need to go to each county the incidents happened in. Whatever may have happened in the past, better to be up front than omit things and have them found out when they run their check.
Getting a CCW can be a adventure, especially when your only option is a non-resident because you live in the assinine state of Illinois. It has taken me on quite a journey, but I can now go most of the places I ever plan to go and be legal. I also have had two DUI's but many years ago and have not drank since the last of them. This did not prevent me from obtaining a CCW from Ct. Each state has their own rules, but I personally do not know of any that will disquallify you for a non-violent misdemeaner over ten years ago. Good luck, Jim.

Thanks..

I thank folks for their thoughtful advice, but I know I was arrested a couple of times more than 20 years ago yet every check I run comes up blank. I don't know any of the particulars about these situations. I was never convicted of anything and I never keep any records, this stuff was like speeding tickets, you do want ever they want and get on with life.
I think I am just going to say that and let the chips fall where they may.

To the talk about Connecticut, this is one of the really blue states and since getting back into hunting and now the shooting sports, I have begun to look at places that are more progun, NC, Alaska, Vermont, NH, to mention a few.

The town I live in East Hartford is a real Democratic stronghold, when we, the family, went to register as Republicans, the registrar tried to steer us into checking the Democratic box.

What to do.

Good luck in your quest Peace. It sounds like since you were never convicted of anything, would probably be the reason nothing shows up on your record...
