you probably should try out the Beretta 92 type pistols. the 92 has variants in .40s&w and in the .22LR. it also has the new 90-two but from what you said about sponginess you woudn't like it. you could try an IMI Jericho 941- you might like that Walther P99 H&K USP SIG 220series...
