Went to Cabelas in Hamburg PA with my buddy. I had a feeling I was coming home with something since it is a 300 mile round trip drive.
Last time I passed up a used 1860 Henry copy engraved at a fantastic price and went home with nothing.
Today I got a great price on this in the used gun section " The library ".
I have been wanting a 25-06 but also have been wanting a Ruger 1 but never thought I'd find both the caliber and model topped with a Leopold 6.5 x 20 scope for under 900.00.
This thing looks minty new.
So I bought a couple boxes of ammo and a set of RCBS dies and 100 nosler 85 gr bullets to take along as well.
Happy as a clam tonight. Tomorrow, I'll give it a shootin.

I have the same rifle with different optics of course and I bought it from my neighbor at a bargain price about 10 years ago.
I love the .25-'06 to start with and I adore Ruger# 1's.
I've killed some Maryland "wheat field" bucks at 300 plus yards with this rifle.
Have fun, it's a SUPER rifle!

sigsmoker

Definitely a Win/Win/Win situation with that rifle, caliber, and scope!

Shot a box of 20 factory Remington 120 gr Core-Lokt PSP to clean up Cabelas bore sight.
It is a joy to shoot. I am sure my handloads will improve on the performance I got from those "deer huntin' bullets".
I'm already working on a load using Nosler 85 gr Varmint Ballistic Tips and Varget powder. No buyers remorse here!
Visions of cloverleafs are dancing in my head tonight.

#1s and cloverleafs often are just a vision.
Good luck, such a pretty rifle is worth experimenting with.

Forend work, if the bbl is decent, and maybe a better trigger. Might even need it timed (whatever that is,bud had a riflemaker do it to a 1A and it shoots fantastic......dunno what % improvement was had by each mod by itself though).

One of these days I'll get another pretty wood 1B in .243.
Have a worn out .22-250 that'll be redone in .35 Rem for deer eventually.

I actually have a #1V in .223 that *will* shoot cloverleafs, but getting there involved lots of time, $, and cursing. Long story short, it only shoots well with it's own brass run through a Lee Collet die, and even then it has a distinct preference for H335 and 50 gr. V-Max. I also had to free float the fore end. So even if your rifle does not give good initial results, don't despair. Mine is my go-to rifle for ground squirrels and within 250 yards, it is a death ray.

Thanks everyone for the approval.
Just got it cleaned up inside and out and stuck in the safe but it's out front and ready. Loaded up 36 cartridges today for the next time out.

I just took a pass on one of these rifles with a Nikon made Tasco on top in 300 WM. I kinda wish I hadn't. Really beautiful rifles that shoulder great. Good on you for grabbing that one.

#1V 25-06 owner here too. Great gun. I found it to be a bit much on varmints so I pulled off the variable high power scope shown in the pic in favor of a fixed 6X scope and use if for deer hunting and the occasional coyote. Mine likes several loads from 87-115 grain bullets. Congrats on your find.

flashhole ... I just read that other post and I think if I need to, I will buy the 120 gr Nosler next time I see them. I have not checked under my forearm wood yet. Maybe a "contact point" job has already been done to it. I saw another post where a piece of bicycle inner tube was used and then a torque tool was tested to measure what amount of torque worked best.
I still have not gotten out to shoot my blue tip 87 gr Nosler I loaded up.
I will though and I will update.
Do you know what year Ruger made these 25-06 1V No. 1's? Mine has a red butt pad. I thought that Ruger was only making certain calibers every year and then being done with that caliber.

I think Ruger has cut way back on their #1 production runs. Lipsey's sells them and I think every couple of years they change chamberings. The #1V they offer now is a 223. If you search GunsAmerica you can find several chamberings.

I bought mine at Walmart of all places. Not sure the year they produced that chamber but I know I bought mine in 2004.

I like the #1V I have and it is the only number one I've ever owned. I would like to get my hands on a Tropical model some day.

Nice lookin' rifle! Here's hoping you get 'er all tuned up and that she'll then shoot as good as she looks.

:)

There is an online list somewhere you can get a production date. A quick Google should bring it up.

Mine is almost identical to yours including the red butt pad. It was born in the late 60s or early 70s as I recall.

Congratulations!

I found the date of mfg. site HERE ... mine was born in 1985 by serial number look-up.
