Beautiful! I have always marveled the single shot rifles. I had a Thompson Encore in .270 once. I wished I didn't sell it.

Time was when a single shot desire was a job for a very talented custom gunsmith.
Then along came the #1 and single shot fans became elated, myself included.
I own three, the.25-'06, a .30-'06 and a .270 which was my first.
All shoot well but I had to free float the barrel on the .270.
I killed PA and Maryland deer with all.

Nice rifle - I hunt w/a 25-06 & load for a friend w/ the same rifle as yours.
115 gr Nosler BT over 49 grains of IMR 4350 is deadlier than Smallpox in both our rifles

I love Ruger no. 1s. I have one in .243 and don't think I will ever part with it. First shot is dead on every time too. Great rifles.

Beautiful rifle, sigsmoker; especially the stock. You got it at a very good price, imo. The most accurate rifle I own (and I have many ) is a Ruger No. 1 Varmint, chambered in .220 Swift.

If you don't have any brass, dies or bullets, I've listed some in the reloading items for sale or trade on this site.

I saw that but I'm fixed up. You aren't breaking up bullet lots or I'd be picking some out. Thanks

great deal. My #1 2506 is the most accurate ruger rifle of any kind ive ever owned and that's in probably close to 30 of them.

I have shot 2 different #1s and had a favorable impression of each. I don't own a .25-06 but have often thought it is prob the best 'medium caliber' going due to a combo of power, cost, and availability.
Happy shooting!
Greg

Ex:

The .25-06 is a dream to shoot! Fast, flat, hits hard enough, kicks minimal.

Only bad part about this thread, it leaves me envious!

Wish I still had my quarter bore!

I had used Varget in various loads and could only get a 2-3 inch group out of 9 different combinations of amounts of powder and OAL with 85 gr Nosler Ballistic tips at 100 yds.

I searched the internet and could not find much more than suggestions for IMR 4350.
Nothing found, so using my figures of best case length ( 3.1775 to 3.180 ).
I loaded up 16 cartridges noting the BOLD type in Lyman #49 for the best accurate load for 87 gr soft points. which is starting at 49.0 gr, so that's what I used.

I can settle for this. 4 or 5 clicks up and 2 clicks to the right and this rifle will be right on at 100 yds.
Now I can take it out and shoot 200 yds.

Here I shot 6 rounds only today, There are 8 holes in the target, There are the only 2 I shot at 100 yds with my new 1895 at 100 yards open sights.
Near the bottom 405 hole are two close 25-06 holes, my first two shots.
I zoomed up my scope to around 18X and put the next 4 25-06 holes in a 1 inch group.

Happiness is finding your load. Ruger 1 25-06 Varmint 85 gr Nosler Ballistic Tip and 49.0 gr IMR 4350 with my OAL at around 3.180.

Target pics ..... love em ..... here's one with my 25-06 No1 V at 150 yards, me shooting off the hood of my pickup using a Bud's Bulls Bag rest.

Near max load of Retumbo powder and CCI 200 primers. The bullet is the Nosler 100 grain Ballistic Tip. I use the same load with the 115 grain Ballistic Tip bullets. For 87 grain bullets I use H4831 with great accuracy.

I reform my 25-06 brass from HXP headstamp 30-06 brass and turn necks as needed. I also use the Lee Collet Neck Die after the first firing of my reformed brass.

Thanks flashhole. Besides 25-06 cases, I have reformed 30-06 too.
I find the bullets seat a tad tighter in the 30-06 reformed cases and that is what I shot these last 6 with. But all were full length die sized.
For this pound of powder, I am going to settle on this load.
I have to admit, I wasn't 100% serious with taking these shots, ( trigger pull control, taking my time ... etc. )
I wasn't even sitting, just leaning over the rifle. I think another more serious session at 200 yds will prove better. Maybe next time I'll try H4831.
