How easy and fun! Took a 45LC deprimed, resized, reprimed. Added 6gr Unique. A thin overpowder card made from a paper milk carton. Added about 1.9cc of #8 shot. Placed another overshot card. Medium crimp. Black fingetnail polish to seal and protect. There you have it.

Snake shot. Took minutes. Good tight pattern at 10ft. Spreads out quite a bit after that.

Just thought I'd share.

Do you have a loading scale??

I would like to know what 1.9cc of #8 lead shot weighs?

There is no way to convert volume to weight.

And as a reloader, I'm more interested in weight then volume.

150gr

*Apologies. I use my Lee Dippers for quite a bit. But yes, I have two scales.

I'm lazy, I use the Speer shotshell capsules for the 38/357, 44 Special and 45 Colt. They work very well for me. That said, if you're not lazy there is nothing wrong with doing it the long way lol...

I must be lazy too.

Been using CCI/ Speer shot caps since they came out, what?

No more bore leading, and better patterns.
What's not to like?

Except you can seldom ever find them in stock anywhere lately.

But thanks for the reminder there is another way to load shot cartridges if I ever have to again.

BTW: my experience on rattlesnakes is, #12 or #9 shot kills them deader, faster, then heavier #8 , #6, or #4 shot.

My theory is, a swarm of tiny shot shorts out a snakes nervous system like a bolt of lighting.

Whereas, a few bigger holes from larger shot just PO's them off more.

I'm loading #9 shot too. I like the pattern and they do work! Last time I needed shot I could only find 50lb bags online and the price was very high and so was the shipping. I again took the easy way and took a no name box of #9 shot shells out of the cabinet and opened the shells for the shot... I got ~1.5lbs of shot which goes a very long way when loading mostly 38s... :p

Hi RC,

I'm lazy too. Even more so, I'm frugal.

Leading hasn't been a problem. I also load some walnut in cases. When the bore needs a good scrubbing, I just shoot a couple cylinders full of them. All lead is gone. Magic.

I use 5gr of Bullseye. I can get 0.4oz of shot in the case.
I've also loaded the .45 cases with #6 shot and shot squirrels with them in my .410 shotgun.

I put in about a 1/4 case of triple 777 FFFG then a none lubed wade then about 1/3 to 1/4 oz of # 7 1/2 shot topped off with a round ball.

also use trailboss and use there fill to base of bullet technique (same thing with triple 777 FFFG) by filling the case with trailboss just above where the wad will set after the shot and ball are loaded.

I Lee alox the round balls and do nothing with the shot. did a test of 36 total rounds with no leading after a quick clean. didn't look before I cleaned.

Works pretty good for snake and even rabbit.

it patterns good out to 10 feet with the round ball always in the middle of the pattern. the round ball seems to hit an 8" ar 500 plate at 20 yards everytime. ( it is very low POI at about 6" low at 20 yards ) im gonna guess it at 500 fps.

I use the Speer plastic shot capsules. Just watch crimp pressure.
Bought 25# of #9 shot. Can make .357 & .44 loads until the end of (my) time. Actually also made some nice "sand" bags.
