.22LR ammo is now available, but where?

Update: Dick's has a huge number of small boxes And 'bricks'. Lots of it was Federal, with a fair bit of CCI etc.
Our hotel is by Dick's in a Charlotte NC mall.

Their quota was lifted quite a while ago. If it weren't for returning to the airport today, might have bought a brick.

No sympathy for the former 'flippers' who spend a classy retirement by ammo counters.

I'm seriously hoping that we'll see ammo prices , and more importantly , quantities , return to what they were a few years ago ......but Im certainly not holding my breath.
Pretty sure the days of sub-$10 , 525rd boxes of Federal plinker-grade stuff is gone like the dodo bird . I had about 40-50 boxes that I had picked up for around $8-$12 each (in the early 2000's) and had no problem selling all I cared to for $50-$60 each , after the Sandy Hook scare.....paid my bills for a few months after my last heart attack did me in.

we had the holiday cci packs around here for 6 cents a round.my son bought 3 of them.we have really slowed down now.our inventiry would have been better but i passed on winny white boxes and golden bullets many times.as long as i have shot i have had problems with both. think the local gander had auto match 19.99 for 325 most of the holiday season too.

Here in Southern NJ it is pretty readily available. Dicks Sporting Goods has had regular sales on Federal Auto Match 325 round boxes. The cheapest price recently was something like $17.99 per box with no limit. I bought 10 boxes because they told me that had a whole pallet full of it and it shoots really well out of my 22's.

In SWFL Bass Pro has had heaps lately - for the first time in years I'm seeing it out on retail shelves by the hundreds of boxes with no limits, instead of the occasional piles behind the counter with a per-customer limit.

Walmart however - forget it. Dozens of local retirees with nothing better to do on a weekend except to line up at the gun counter at 7am on Saturday mornings. There's going to be some news stories in a few years where one of these hoarders is going to die and they will find 100k rounds in his house. I'm told some of them have been doing it every weekend like clockwork for years.

I might resemble that remark!

I just buy it when I find it. I don't go hunting for it.

Lately my health has cut down on the amount I use. I'm hoping that's changing. I've been invited to join a very nice local gun club. That will definitely help.

Been doing it that way for decades and have never had an issue with a shortage. When I see .22 LR or any reloading components on sale I just grab them. Ammunition and or reloading components have a long as in very long shelf life.

Was just at my local "low cost" local gun shop - picked up a box (2 bricks / 1,000 rds.) of Winchester M*22 for $54.91 (.05491 per round, .0579 per round after taxes).
He had 3 boxes - called a buddy that's on the lookout for plated .22 ammo, and I picked up the other 2 boxes for him.

The shop's shelves are about to collapse with all the .22 ammo (about 10 flavors) available.

BTW - only thing I'm really looking for at this time is Winchester M*22 sub-sonic and Federal .22 Suppressor ammo. These are two of my favorites as they're both plated rounds (keep the silencers cleaner), but I won't overpay.

A while back the shop had the same Winchester M*22 ammo in subsonic, but it was $49.99 / brick - almost twice the price of the supersonic M*22 I bought today - at that price I passed.

I told him his supplier of the subsonic M*22 was gouging him.

Central and north Texas seems to have .22 ammo in just about every store. That said, I order all mine from PSA and Target Sports USA. At 6.5-8 cents per round, free shipping and no tax, it's hard to pass up.

My local Walmart (Tompkinsville, KY) has had 50 round boxes of 22lr in stock every time I have been there for the last month or two.

Was in our local Walmart a few days ago - apparently the flippers are getting lazy / satiated.

They had CCI Stingers ($6.47 / .1264 per rd.) and Mini-Mags ($7.47 / .0747 per rd.).

Didn't really need anything, but picked up my 3 box limit of Stingers as they rarely come around, and a friend's wife keeps her M&P 15-22 loaded with Stingers for SD and critters on the farm.

Went back the next day and all the Mini-Mags were gone - was going to pick up a few more Stingers, but after waiting for way too long with no one in sight with a key to the ammo case, I gave up.

basicblur:
Pick up the store's PA and You page somebody to the department counter. "We have shoppers in the hunting/fishing dept".
I did this several years ago in Bartlett TN (on Hwy 64), in order to buy a TN fishing license. It worked really well! If it doesn't next time, use a fake Russian accent like "FPS Russia" on Youtube.

They have no idea who makes the PA, which you can hear very well, echoing off the ceiling, and there is No store warning against it.
What do you have to lose? American initiative........add a slight foreign accent to it.

They used to have a red button on the counter - hit the button and it paged someone to the counter.
I guess it was just too darn efficient - don't know when / why they removed it.

And they wonder why sales are down...

Here in Oregon, our local gun store has FINALLY gotten some in!

Federal Automatch, 3250 rounds for $180. 0.055/round, not too bad.

here in coalgate Oklahoma in which Walmart is in Atoka Oklahoma they go for weeks without any 22lr ammo and then sometimes they get some in but is gone really quick so with trump coming in I hope this 22 ammo calms down this year and i''l stock up for the next time the run on ammo hits in the furture! I hope to have 50k plus rounds before he leaves office hopefully in 8 years! then we need pence for another 8 years to protect our guns! but yeah 22 mag ammo is super scarce around here! and never see any 22 shorts nor 22 longs anymore!!

Made another pass by the Walmart ammo case - flyin' on memory AFA prices, but they had some type of Winchester SuperX for $6.47 / box and one box of Winchester 333 / $17.47 box.

Couldn't tell much about the SuperX as I had to break out my flashlight to see it buried deep in the case - had about 8 boxes. Don't know how many Winchester 333 they got in, but based on the way the one box was sitting on the shelf, I assume they had sold quite a few stacked in front of the lone box.

That makes 22 ammo on 2 days out of 4 or so (earlier post on the CCI MiniMags and Stingers).

'Course, our local gun shop is still buried in the stuff - I think the identical Winchester SuperX goes for $2 to $3 more at the shop.
