.22LR ammo is now available, but where?

I was shocked to see 3 different brands of .22LR at a Meijer's in Toledo last week. One of them was Winchester 555 bricks for $27.95, about as cheap as it gets. I grabbed one. I would have bought two, but I have a good supply, and taxes are due today and it's a very tight month.

In north Florida I have not seen 22lr at a walmart since 2008, they say it comes in but it goes out immediately.

Here recently most LGS have at least one brand in stock, always overpriced.

I did buy a brick of federal champion recently, at alachua farm and lumber, it was just under $50, expensive, but at least it was decent ammo, some of the local stores want that much for rem golden bullet.

The past 2 years has been uneventful. When .22LR was in, the shops would break the 500 bricks apart to sell them in 50 round boxes at $6.99. Can't recall the brand other than I'd not heard of it before. Yesterday the LGS had some Aguila Super Extra, I passed but today I went back and picked up a brick for $53.

Online would be better if any had them but with shipping it was at that $.10/ round for stuff like Remington or the same Aguila SE. The $.008/round difference wasn't worth a grumble to not buy. Back in the mid 90's I paid $.04/round so the inflation calculator for 2016 is close enough at $.10. So long as the stuff remains available picking up 500 rounds now and then will keep my supplies up.

I talked to a friend at the Federal plant in Anoka MN today

They are producing 5 miilion rounds per day and are backordered 3.5 billion rounds.

I was in the Portland, OR Cabela's about a month or so ago and it looked likefouled bore's picture. 6 types of 22 LR with lots of boxes of each. I didn't buy any because I didn't need any.

I bought my first 22 LR about a year ago and purchased 6000 rounds of ammo locally a box or two at a time and paid between $0.06 and $0.10 per round.

Got 3 100 round boxes of CCI Mini-mag HPs at Wallyworld yesterday for something over 7 bucks a piece. 3 box maximum. Meh, some good stuff for a change. Just good to see it once in a while.

Academy here in the Dallas area has a good selection of .22 ammo, Cabela's had a bunch last time I was there, Bass Pro had a good supply also. I mange to find it at Walmart about half the time.

I limit my purchases to no more than 1000 rounds a month and haven't had a problem picking up that amount at decent prices in the past 18 months or so.

Walmart has the best prices followed by Academy, Cabela's and Bass Pro. I only get to Cabela's about once a month since they are almost an hour away.

I picked up a Savage B Mag on close out at Walmart a couple of weeks ago so I've kind of switched over to buying .17 WSM for a while.

For anybody that still needs .22's, I'd get on the email list for Palmetto State Armory and Midway, probably others. Few weeks ago PSA had Federal Auto Match for $24.99, free shipping on 4 boxes or more. I don't believe there was a limit. I have a friend that bought 3,250 rounds.

I was shocked to see some CCI mini-mags and a few boxes of CCI 22 WMR at my local Walmart. I hadn't seen any there since a month or so after sandy hook. (Dec 2012 as I recall). Supplies are certainly getting much much better as Bass Pro, Cabelas, Academy, and Dicks has 22 ammo.

Walmart on US23 north of Columbus Ohio had some this weekend. It is called the 'Lewis Center' store...just north of Powell Road on 23.
CCI Mini-Mags were priced at $7.77 per 100 rounds. I saw 17 packs on the shelf.

I see it so much now, it's becoming hard to not see it. What a change. One place doesn't seem to have much of anything, now has 4 different kinds of .22LR, cheap, and doesn't have much 9mm at all now. Totally reversed from a year or so ago, when they had at least 5 different 9mm rounds in stock for high prices. I have enough to be able to shoot a box a day and not run out anytime soon. I may grab a couple of 555 bricks since it's cheap and my Colt Ar22 seems to like it.

Wal-Mart is still bare. When the .22 stuff can sit on a shelf there, that signals .22 is widely available. I haven't tried the local Big 5 or Dicks Sporting goods to see, I gave up on those long ago.

Lots of rimfire at the weekend gun show, still the vendors are asking 9 to 11 cents a round. Not buying any at that price unless it is premium match rimfire. Then I'd pay more but not for bulk pack.

The Dicks around here has LOTS of .22's. One in Mishawaka IN had dozens of bulk boxes

Be advised that they will price match any published price from any brick and mortar store in the US. so, take in an ad and get the same price.

Hmm, that's 700 days or nearly two years. Seems like they need to expand production.

Was at Walmart this afternoon. They had just got in 25 sleeves of the Winchester Hyper Velocity stuff. Academy had a pretty good selection today too.

I was at the local Walmart getting hunting permits the other day. No .22 on the shelf, the clerk said he had only seen it that late in the day once, it is stocked in the morning and gone by noon.

I was at Walmart on 9/24/16 and they had a few boxes of 22 LR and 22 WMR. I bought my 3 boxes of each. First I have seen either at Walmart in quite a while.

I was in our local Walmart today around 11am for my normal grocery run - I always swing by the ammo case just to see what's there.

A few days ago they had the 100-rd. boxes of Winchester Super X (of some flavor) and they were all still there today. They also had one 1,000 rd. box of Winchester M*22 stuck way back in the case shadows (had to pull my flashlight out to see it hidden there). I didn't need it, but bought it and will find a fellow shooter looking for .22 - gotta keep it from the scalpers!

The M*22 sold for $50.87 (.05087 / rd.) - our local gun shop sells the same ammo for $59.98 (.05998 / rd.) - he's about $4 box of 500 higher than Walmart.

Of course, he's had plenty of around 10 to 15 flavors of .22 ammo for months now, and actually started turning down .22 offers from his suppliers a few months ago.

He also had the first M*22 Subsonic I've seen in the wild, but he wanted $49.99 / box (vs. $29.99 / box for the same supersonic round) - apparently his supplier is burning him on the subsonics - he has Gemtech and CCI subsonic bricks much cheaper, but I would like to have some M*22 subsonic as they are a plated round (cleaner thru a silencer).

Found a LGS that keeps plenty of .22lr on the shelves. Priced reasonable, payed $23 for a 325 of Federal Auto Match (used to be about $19 at Walmart). He has also been my only connection for 22 Mag ammo. He does have limits on amounts of certain brands to be fair.

Academy had a decent selection about a week ago in Bartlett TN, by I-40.
Quantities & prices reflected what 'Cannibul' and 'bang bang' found.

As the last .22 'balloon' has not quite collapsed, the next sheep stampede could Really last for years.

If none found locally, why not pay extra for online deals + shipping?

Walmart in Gulf Shores, AL had Winchester .22, Academy in Foley, AL had quite a bit of .22 as well.

I picked up 1000 rounds of CCI SV at Academy yesterday. Cabela's had a bunch of .22 ammo in stock. Being Cabela's it was at least $1 a box too high.
