Hi,

First post here. Bought a rifle from a fella on gun broker in Texas. Tikka 22-250 with a Nikon Monarch on it. Gun got to my local gun shop but the seller does not have a FFL . This was Friday.. Got ahold of the seller and told him I needed his FFL which he replied he didnt have one ( I didnt know a regular ID would work) Ive emailed him twice since then and called him twice. His wife answers and says he will call me back but both times he hasn't called me back. What are my options here if this guy doesnt provide an ID ?

He doesnt sound very tech savvy on the phone when I tried to get him to send me a copy of his drivers license. I fear he thinks Im trying to scam him for his info. No returns on the item. Has 100% feedback on over 200 sales but what gives? Give it a few days ? Just a little worried Im gonna be SOL on a 600 dollar rifle and also have a prairie dog hunt lined up Id like to take this gun along for a backup rifle or atleast just get it home!!

I mean the guy wont answer emails or calls now.. It is the holiday weekend ... I have his phone number and name but no address. Ideas? Just keep calling ?

You may contact GB, explain your situation and ask for seller info.
Usually, they not providing information, but it worth to try. Or you may contact FFL dealer who sent rifle for your seller.

No FFL needed to send the rifle, so I assume he did although I do not know if they have the guys address or not . Like stated earlier maybe they want the drivers license ### ?

Have you asked what information your transferring dealer need to make it happen?
What is their reason for not transferring?

Every gunbroker purchase I've made has included a link to the seller's contact information.

As far as the receiving FFL goes, the one's I've used run the gamut as far as what they'll accept from a non-licensee. They pretty much all want the same information, some will do the transfer with less than ideal, some won't. I think they need the information for their book.

If your seller is not forthcoming with his/her DL information to you, perhaps encourage them to contact your FFL directly with the information. I understand why these days there may be some reluctance to share one's DL information beyond what is absolutely necessary to complete the deal.

I've only ever had 1 FFL request/demand a copy of my DL when I've sold a firearm; as previously stated, it is not a requirement for the Seller to have an FLL, it's only the recipient who needs/needs-to-be one.

Called again about noon, got ahold of the guys wife again. Told him I needed him to call me and she responded he hasnt called you yet ? He will call you when he gets home in an hour. Been 4 hours ... no response yet.

Still no phone call back for the day. That makes 3 days of calls and three days of promising to call back with no calls back. Atleast they answer I guess.

Tell him you will leave an "F" feedback and remove it once your dealer gets a copy of the drivers license.
As far as him not being "tech savvy"? He sure as heck was tech savvy enough to use the internet, post a listing on Gunbroker 200+ times and post pictures.

He's being a jerk.

Try printing out the seller's info from the Gunbroker page showing the seller's info. It should have his name, address and phone# on it.
If he won't accept that, find an FFL who will accept that and tell your guy to ship it to them. Otherwise, he'll ship it back to the seller listed on the return address on the gun.

If he has 200+ sales on GB and isn't an FFL then he's probably afraid you're an ATF agent setting up a sting or something. Not sure what he thinks your angle is, but he's probably good and paranoid and doesn't necessarily have to have a good reason at this point to feel sketchy.

So I'm guessing he he sent it Fedex or UPS? His name, address, and phone number should all be on the package, and I believe that both UPS and Fedex make a copy of your license when you declare a firearm. According to a local UPS store, UPS actually has a federal license, as they informed me one day that they can't ship firearms themselves because they're franchises and not covered under UPS' corporate FFL and would have to get their own. She may have been full of crap, but she was the owner of the franchise and confirmed that she was prohibited both by her agreement with UPS and federal law from shipping firearms without a license. If she was telling the truth, then this should be the same as an FFL to FFL transfer, which shouldn't require this guy to give your FFL any additional info.

No, they don't. A list of FFL's is on the ATF website.

She's confused. UPS tariffs (company policy) prohibit third party retailers from accepting firearm shipments. The UPS Store is a franchised business and not owned by UPS. Their franchise agreement prohibits them from shipping firearms.

Again, she's confused on many levels. No federal law requires a license to ship firearms.

OP's dealer wants a copy of the shippers drivers license. His business, his rules.
