I was looking at the used rack in the back of the gun shop the other day and saw this 92FS Compact L Type M. I'd never seen one before and snapped a pic of it.

Bored at work yesterday I remembered it and posted the pic in one of my Beretta Facebook groups. Everybody went nuts and told me it's rare and I should go buy it. Were they right?

(I did go back yesterday and it was still there. Managed to talk them down on the price also.)

Not sure how rare a Model 92FS Compact L Type M is but I can say I never have seen one for sale and the asking price seems decent enough. I would get it and if it turns out to be not as rare as you thought it was I'm sure you could turn around and get your money back out of it.

For sure. I guess I forgot to mention in the original post the Type M is the single stack model, so it's a bit slimmer than a regular one. Would be a nice ccw piece.

Nice pickup, sounds like a great price. That's a lot of quality for $400.

Yes rare... however that doesnt automatically mean you struck gold... :)

I have one... While a great gun, its not anymore valuable than what they were selling it for..
Oh and BTW Magazines are pretty much non-existent so your not going to be finding any others for less than 100.00

Definitely can't go wrong at that price, even if the mags are hard to come by. The tag says 2 mags; is that 2 extra mags for a total of 3 or is just 2 mags counting the one in the gun already?

I've bought plenty of guns just cause they seemed interesting and the price was right.

Worst case scenario, I don't see what the fuss was about and either make a few bucks or trade into something else interesting and at a good deal.

I'm not a fan of the Beretta 92FS but that us a very nice one. Being a single stack pistol it probably carries well. Price is good alright, you did great there.

I was happy to find it was two extra, plus the factory plastic grips. I guess they didn't count the mag that was in there. As others have said the mags are hard to come by. I see some on Ebay right now, cheapest are $75 each.

I picked it up from the store yesterday. I gave it a once over (again) there before paying for it. Bore looks nice and nothing seems wrong with it. I'm still going to detail strip it this afternoon. Although everything looks good it is 14 years old and I don't know what kind of maintenance has been done on it. I'm going to go ahead and replace the trigger spring just because I don't know what kind of mileage it has, and I'll check out the others and see if they need replacing.

Those are quite scarce and are bringing in a lot more $ than you paid online. Congrats!

I saw that! I was considering putting it and another pistol I have on Gunbroker, but that site seems to be a pain in the butt. Apparently I need my own credit card processor and all kinds of stuff.

Nice!

I similarly stumbled into an almost new SB series type M (early style round trigger guard) at well below market value at the LGS.

Outstanding pistol for defensive carry!

No, you don't have to. You can choose the form of payment required. I take my guns I no longer want to my FFL to sell on consignment most of the time.

Good to know. I also figured out that if I do sell something on there I can have my FFL send it to theirs fairly cheap. Not being licensed I'd have to do it overnight and that's like over $100.

Some FFL dealers I know will sell on consignment (maybe for 10 or 15% of the sold price; some might also do it for a flat fee), or for a little bit more put it on one of the online auction sites. A lot depends on how much traffic the store gets and whether or not it's reasonably priced.

Nice score. Marengo gets some nice stuff on a regular basis. I've purchased quite a few from there over the years.

I accidentally discovered them a few years ago when 90 was torn up and I started taking the back roads. Very happy with them. Good prices great selection and they take good care of me.

I'm related to Dominic the owner via marriage. :D
