I'm thinking of trading up my Savage MKII/Bushnell scope combo (the kind you get at Cabela's) for a CZ 455 American combo (the one with the .17 HMR and .22 LR barrels) and am wondering about scopes.

What would be a good scope for covering both calibers? I'm not familiar enough with the differences in ballistics between the cartridges (I do know that .17 shoots flatter and is less vulnerable to wind) to understand what I'm looking for.

I do know that I'll have to sight in the rifle with each barrel swap, but that's not too big of an issue. It'd be nice to have a rifle that would cut through Parma Woods' windy days.

Ideally, we keep the scope in the $120-200 range.

Need to know what you plan to do with the gun and scope. What distance, what circumstances (bench/target or hunting) and how serious are you about precision/small groups?

Longest distance I can shoot at a local range is 100 yards. This will be mainly for trying to shoot MoA groups at that distance or less, since the range is broken up at 25 yard increments.

If you are on a budget the Mueller apv is very popular over on rimfire central. I have one and have been quite pleased. 4-14x40 for $130, more or less.

For a good scope with enough power that you won't soon be wishing for more when trying to shoot your best groups at 100 yards, you could consider getting this before they sell the remaining 6 they have in stock as of this writing: http://www.opticsplanet.com/sightro...rce=cse&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=connexity Should be $197.99 delivered if you use the coupon code LDAY (not sure how much longer that code will last but it's been working for the past few days). For years this was a $350+ (street price) scope and a lot have been sold in that price range. It's currently a bargain. And it focuses down to 12 yards or so.

Here's how the scope looks on a CZ 452:

I like, I like.

Would use of .17 HMR give any accuracy over .22 LR at 100 yards with that setup?

Yes. 17hmr can be .5moa, and 22lr, even with good ammo is going to be 1 moa at best at 100 (yes, I know there are guys out there who can show you a target they shot that is 10 rounds in 1 hole at 100yds they shot while riding a horse or standing on their head, but for most people, that's not the case). Out beyond 100 the 17 will retain accuracy better than the 22.
