BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Three police officers were shot to death at a Birmingham house Thursday, and a suspect and four other people were taken into custody, authorities said.

Dozens of officers -- some wearing body armor and carrying shotguns and rifles -- swarmed around the house and went door-to-door in the neighborhood of modest, older homes, apparently searching for a suspect in the early afternoon shooting.

Jefferson County Sheriff Mike Hale said Nathaniel Lauell Woods, 27, and four others were in police custody. Police said Woods was a suspect, and earlier had released copies of his mug shot, but they did not say why they took the other people into custody.

It was not known if any charges had been filed, and details of the killings were not immediately available.

Get ready to lose your guns, folks. This is just the stuff Fineswine needs to further her cause. I know I will purchase any preban stuff I see online within the next two day, because the ban will be extended, and it will become much worse. Mark my words.

RIP officers.

Guess they should've knocked before the entered.....What else would you expect when you crash someones door in unexpected.
Maybe the LEOs should change their operating procedures and stop knocking down doors.

Happened less than 50 miles from me. And the police locally are out in force. 4 people pulled over on my way home and it is only about 8 miles. 1 car was being thoroughly searched.

Oh, no.

I didn't catch the local news before I read this post; have any names been released? I know several Birmingham officers. From what I learned from a friend, it happened in the Ensley area, on the western side of town. all the officers I know are in the eastern division, but they could have been assisting.

Whoever they were, though, it's a tragedy.

What makes you think it was a raid or that the officers did anything improper? Why are you automatically blaming the officers ?

Truly sad.

4110 unborn children died today under a doctors needle, where is their article?

On the local news here they made sure they mentioned SKS several times and "it is powerful enough to penetrate body armor" several times. Well duh just like almost every rifle out there  This will probably help fuel the fire for the AWB renewal, even though most sks's only have one of the "evil" features :cuss: My thoughts and prayers are with the officer's families

tcsd1236......I didn't say it was a raid.......I read the story, did you?......They were serving a warrant.................Also, I didn't say they did anything wrong,. I said their procedures are wrong.
Plus, IMHO its a violation of my rights to break down my door......If they have a warrant, I'll open the door and let'em in.

Truly sad.

250 deaths occurded to day from infections cuased in hospitals that could have been prevented, where are their articles.

Small comfort, but I didn't know any of the oficers killed.

[rant on]

On the local coverage, the station carried an interview with a "former police and corrections officer" who owns a gunshop and quoted the script about a "high-powered" SKS "assault rifle". The ammo used, according to the report, was hollow-point hunting ammo.

For locals, the person interviewed was Vito of "Vito's Too" gunshop in Hueytown.

Ant Mod........I agree......All those Stats you mention are Truly Sad. Its too bad these issues aren't being addressed. I guess (3) commando LEOs getting mowed down by a guy with a sks is more important that the thousands and thousands that die by other meaningless ways.....Truly SAD.

They were shot in their car.

Three public servants die a violent death. How about we have the decency to wait for rigor to set in before we start worrying about how inconvenient this will be to us and our pet causes? And there has'nt been nearly enough cogent and lucid commentary from our tactical "experts" yet.....

Sendec; you have a very god point. The problem is that the left wastes no time politicizing any event to fit their agenda. That this tragedy, under the guise of "journalism" is being exploited for gun control adds insult to the injury.

That is the impression I get from the breathless descriptions of "assault weapons" and their effects.

First impressions count, and the Left is getting it.

If they have a warrant, I'll open the door and let'em in.

How nice of you.

Now, if only every drug dealing scumbag would do the same thing, instead of running straight for their guns, a handy hostage, or the back door when they heard "Police! Open up!" then we woudln't have a problem.

No-knock warrants were invented for a reason. And if having to arrest someone inside a known crackhouse with god knows how many weapons and people inside isn't one of those reasons, I don't know what is.

I guess (3) commando LEOs getting mowed down

Yeah, WildsometimesIagreewithhimcompletelyAlaska
said it best.

Ya know, regardless of whether these men were thugs in uniform, or honest, brave Americans, you just disrespected their families in a time of terrible grief. Thanks, man, thanks a lot. Not to mention at least one member of this forum who may have been friends with one or more of the officers involved.
At least wait until the blood dries.
Yeah, real classy, man.

Any, and I mean ANY semi-auto rifle is an "assault rifle." Get used to it, the left wing media controls the national vocabulary, not us.

In my novel, I had the bad guys deliberately use an SKS for their "assault rifle massacre" in the packed football stadium. My reasoning was that by using a rifle designed to take ten rounds in an internal magazine, Congress would have a rationale for banning ALL semi-auto rifles, and not just banning hi cap mags and so on. Even though the killer's SKS has been (in my novel) modified to take 30 round mags, it's "clear" to the media and the sheeple that ALL semi-autos need to be banned after this (fictional) rampage.
