Old West Cowboys carried rolled up paper money called “burial money” in the empty chamber of their six-guns.

Wood stock long guns have a long hollow tube for the stock screw. I have read stories about finding paper like old hunting licenses being found there.

The hollow space inside the pistol grip on modern guns like the AR which is ideal for storage. Magpul especially is taking advantage of this space.

So what is in your stock or grip?

Allen wrenches for taking apart the scope mount, grip, charging handle, gas block, and pushing out the trigger pins. They are taped up to keep them rattling around. I plan to put a cleaning rod and a packet of oil in the stock buttplate.

Batteries in my cqb kit, and I use magpul on some SPRs, so I put some dope cards in there once in awhile.
I also have the lmt sopmod craned stock, so it has more battery storage there.

Weird story about just this topic:

Several years ago I was contacted by a complete stranger asking if I was interested in buying an old shotgun that had my Father's hunting license rolled up in the stock. Now, my father had been dead for a couple decades at this point, but the stranger was accurate in describing all of the personal information included on the license, which was dated 1942! My (eventual) Father would have been about 15 years old at that time.

So, intrigued, I travelled to the other side of my state to see the gun. It was a Winchester Model 20 (single shot) in 410 caliber. It was in rough shape, but I bought it for sentimental reasons along with the old hunting license that had been found in the stock. On my way home, I stopped at Dad's brother's house to show him the shotgun. He was astonished to see it again. He remembered shooting rats with it down at the city dump along with my Dad when they were boys. More than seeing the gun again, he was most impressed that my Dad had even bothered to buy a hunting license back then. Lol.

Anyway, I've cleaned it up, and it is a wall-hanger now, along with the laminated hunting license, which is still legible 76 years later.

Oh, and the stranger who I bought this gun from, was a retired farmer who himself bought it from someone else (not my Dad) to use for varmint control when out in his fields. He did an AMAZING job tracking me down after all those years.

The Army used to issue a zero card, which you used to copy down your zero sight setting. That went in the butt trap (along with an oiler, cleaner, take-down tool, etc.). When I got my M1 Garand from CMP the first thing I did was open the butt trap -- and there was the zero card! It was right on, too.

My reason for starting this thread is looking for ideas.

AR#1 has storage in the grip and a storage compartment in the buttstock. I put a Magpul lube bottle in the grip and some cleaning patches and foam earplugs in the buttstock compartment. That way when I want to go shooting or hunting all I need is ammo and a target. I can quickly clean and reoil the bolt at the range or in the field.

Other AR only has storage compartment in the grip so looking for ideas.

Both guns have Magpul MBUS. Gun #1 is a candidate for a scope and designated for hunting due to it's weight and quality of the barrel.

Gun #2 is a basic AR build that I did that has amazing accuracy so it is my go to defense and range gun. It is a candidate for Red Dot sight so extra battery may be a must. (depends if I like having a Red Dot sight).

I am in the process of getting the parts of Gun #3 and Gun #4 is on paper. I am planning on one as being a light(er) weight build possibly with only a Red Dot sight. Some emergency cash ($20.00) stashed in the grip compartment might be useful

When I had a red dot on my AR, a pair of lithium AA batteries were kept in the grip. Now that a non-illuminated scope is on my AR, a scope mount removal tool is in the grip.

The A1 buttstock I have has one of the triangular packaged USGI type cleaning kits in it. I'm not sure why I keep the kit in there, other than it fits in that compartment.

You guys are not getting off that easy. What kind of air?

Ocean, mountain, desert, great plains, country with pollen, urban with smog? If mountain air what mountain and at what elevation? Or maybe restaurant air with the smell of bbq?
right now air from the back of my gun case, its sad it dosent have an upper....
On a good day mostly mountain air, tho sometimes its ocean, and every once in a while its jungle mucky muggy.

I like that idea, i may start carying around a small wrench and or allen depending on what mount i have attached.
