That’s my hang up. $100 vortex rings and a $600 scope. Putting them on a $25 riser seems foolish.Im the exact opposite. I dislike adding a second piece to the equation, and tend to run AR specific mounts, over VERY tall pic or weaver rings.
Ive used risers a few times and they do work, but alignment can be an issue with the cheap ones.
Sweet thanks. I have Nikon mounts on other Ar rifles I guess I didn’t realize they made a 30mm.AR specific mounts like the PEPR fit most people better than your setup Txhillbilly. You are definitely the exception to the rule.
Nikon sells a two piece AR mount SamT1 that I mounted for a bunch of customers. There are people who don’t like them but I’ve never had one brought back to because they failed. They run under $50.00 and that is the least expensive option I’d go with. I believe the PEPR is a much better option though. SWFA sells the PEPR under their name with a little different twist. Instead of selling 1” and 30mm they just sell a 30mm that comes with inserts in case you have a 1” tube scope. Additionally, instead of two sets of upper rings(smooth and picatinny) you only get a set of smooth upper rings. They cost quite a bit less than a PEPR.

If it's a long scope which most are, you might consider mounting it to a cantilever.will any cheap riser be precise enough to work with an AR10? I have a real nice vortex scope (30mm tube) so I need to use a riser. Will it be good or do I need some sort of special one?
I have 2-3 UTG risers (short in length and height). Excellent products. One is a QD and does just fine.Yeah I use one particular that I can vouch for on ARs with a 20 moa cant.

Have three of them, never had a problem with the torque screws. I use blue loctite to in the screws like a scope to keep vibration and weather changes from loosening the screws up but properly torqued should be sufficient
Yep and I just use the regular 6 screw low rings and put in on. I don’t think it’s actually a full 20 moa, but it still gave me plenty of ups and the scopes I use can travel well past any ar cartridge max range.I have 2-3 UTG risers (short in length and height). 20 moa just tilts it down to give you more elevation. You would have to rezero again, which you would proably need to do just moving your scope off your rifle anyways. So a 20mm would put my elevation turret back down instead of about dead center.
I tried a couple AR one piece scope mounts years ago on my RRA 223 and 458 SC. The cheek weld was terrible because the scopes sat too high off the upper receiver's.
I run an ACE skeleton stock on all of my AR's,and using a Weaver 1/2" riser with medium Burris Signature Zee rings has worked perfect for me. I'm running this setup on 5 AR's small and large frame guns.
