I've decided that my next firearm purchase needs to be a 9mm. My only handgun currently is a Gen III Glock 20 10mm Auto. I love the 10mm cartridge, but am tired of not being able to find decent ammo for it. I want a 9mm because it is economical and available. I also have no complaints with the Glock, but I am looking for something hammer fired and a little different.

Pistol must:
- Be 9mm
- Be hammer fired
- Have an ambidextrous safety that allows the pistol to be carried cocked and lock
- Have an accessory rail to mount a light
- Have double stack magazine holding at least 15 rounds

Going to the Glock analogy, I am primarily looking for a compact around the size of the Glock 19. I am not considering any sub-compacts like the Glock 26 because I have big enough hands they mostly just annoy me. I am willing to consider full-size guns, like the Glock 17 in size, but would like the option to carry concealed. And again, I am not considering Glocks, I am just using them for size comparison because most of us are familiar with them.

I am looking at a couple different CZs; the SP-01 and the P-07, and the FN FNX-9. The SP-01 is a little large but would allow me to convert it to single-action only, which is ideal for me, since I hate double action pistols. That is why I am eliminating outright all decocker-only double actions, or any of them that don't allow the pistol to be carried cocked and locked. The P-07 and the FNX-9 are both more the size I was looking for. I have also consider some more obscure pistols, like the AREX, and am not opposed to them, I just generally prefer popular models from reputable manufactures that I know I can find parts, service, and accessories for.

Any input on these three models, as well as any other handguns I might have missed that fit the criteria are welcome.

I have an FX-9.

This is a good shooting pistol. It is very accurate, it shoots anything I put into the magazine.

I bought this because my wife is a southpaw and this pistol has ambi controls. This pistol
fits your criteria and would get my vote.

Hope this helps. Good luck

Tisas Regent BR9 Hi-Power clone, but you will need to add the ambi safety, which is not a big deal. Or, find a Browning, FN, FEG, or FM Hi-Power with the ambit safety already installed.

Oops, just saw the requirement for a rail. One can be added to a Hi-Power, but IMHO they are ugly as all get out.

It's a toss up between the FNX9 and the CZ P07, I bought the CZ just because I already own a CZ 40B and I am very impressed with everything about it so it was a natural choice for me but the FNX 9 gives up nothing to the CZ

I really wish it didn't need a rail so I could suggest a BHP.

I almost bought an FN FNX once. Seemed like a solid gun.

This gem from the FN FNX owners manual caused some warrantee issues for a member on another forum....

Notice! Your pistol should be inspected every 2000 rounds and/or once a year by a qualified gunsmith or the FN product service center because damage, wear and corrosion are not always visible from the outside. Law Enforcement and Military personnel should contact their departmental armorer who will inspect the pistol on a yearly basis.

The guy was not happy since he didn't follow the notice (my guess is pretty much nobody does this) and FN wouldn't cover his warrantee claim.

20181003_194708.jpg CZ all the way. I have the P09 which is the larger version of the P07 and it is fantastic. Can't say enough about the Omega trigger and accuracy out of the box. With a little practice you'll be splitting cards at 10 yards like the attached pic. Very low muzzle rise, but they seem to prefer 124 ammo.

Sounds like a 9mm double stack 1911 with a rail. I believe Rock Island makes one. It should fit all your needs

Check out the HK P30S, “S” indicates the thumb safety. You have a couple options on the trigger variant, my P30 (no safety) is a v3 SA/DA, but you could opt for a LEM trigger variant with the thumb safety.

Like my Springfield 9mm 1911 but not double stack.
I like my Sig P226 Dark Elite but no safety.

So neither quite fits what your after. But both are good guns.

I have a bunch of service pistols. My CZ's are my favorites. If you don't like the way it racks, just cock the hammer first. I've had people shoot my raggedy Israeli surplus clone and beg me to sell it to them. I love my CZ's.

The FNX-9 is a really nice pistol, and it shot well for me.

The texture of the grip was just too aggressive for me.

Looked at the CZ P07. Liked the ergonomics and features it had but loved the way the P01 felt in my hand; like a smaller version of the Browning Hi-Power. Never any problem with racking the slide of my P01. If I were looking for a 9mm. set-up the way you wanted it to be, I would go with either the P01 Omega or the P07.

One of the concerns I have for the CZs is the inverted rail, specifically, the lack of slide purchase for charging the pistol and clearing malfunctions. Has anyone had problems with this?

A valid concern, however I have no problem with an overhand rack if it happens. Also, mag changes are fast, once you get used to it jam it in and no need to rack it or not the slide release, for right into battery.
