I've decided that my next firearm purchase needs to be a 9mm. My only handgun currently is a Gen III Glock 20 10mm Auto. I love the 10mm cartridge, but am tired of not being able to find decent ammo for it. I want a 9mm because it is economical and available. I also have no complaints with the Glock, but I am looking for something hammer fired and a little different.
Pistol must:
- Be 9mm
- Be hammer fired
- Have an ambidextrous safety that allows the pistol to be carried cocked and lock
- Have an accessory rail to mount a light
- Have double stack magazine holding at least 15 rounds
Going to the Glock analogy, I am primarily looking for a compact around the size of the Glock 19. I am not considering any sub-compacts like the Glock 26 because I have big enough hands they mostly just annoy me. I am willing to consider full-size guns, like the Glock 17 in size, but would like the option to carry concealed. And again, I am not considering Glocks, I am just using them for size comparison because most of us are familiar with them.
I am looking at a couple different CZs; the SP-01 and the P-07, and the FN FNX-9. The SP-01 is a little large but would allow me to convert it to single-action only, which is ideal for me, since I hate double action pistols. That is why I am eliminating outright all decocker-only double actions, or any of them that don't allow the pistol to be carried cocked and locked. The P-07 and the FNX-9 are both more the size I was looking for. I have also consider some more obscure pistols, like the AREX, and am not opposed to them, I just generally prefer popular models from reputable manufactures that I know I can find parts, service, and accessories for.
Any input on these three models, as well as any other handguns I might have missed that fit the criteria are welcome.
