Suggestions for hammer fired 9mm

That has been my problem as well since the first time I held one.

I suppose one could get used to it but they're not for me.

Same here. I own one CZ which is a SP01 Shadow and I really like it as a range gun but for self defense purposes my hammer fired pistols are SIGs and HKs.

For OP,

I have the HK P30LS which has the ambi safety and also has a decocker. With CZ you get the choice of one or the other but not both. On the HK P30 the safety can also be engaged with the hammer down. The P30S or P30SKS would be a better size for CCW though. I CCW my P30SK usually with 13 round magazine though mine is LEM with no safety.

(HK P30S) Pistol must:
- Have an ambidextrous safety that allows the pistol to be carried cocked and lock

The HK P30S DOES have an ambidextrous thumb safety, and the v3 SA/DA trigger variant CAN be carried C&L!

I'm aware the P30S can be carried "cocked and locked", but I was not aware it was available with a safety lever on the right and left sides.

One of the concerns I have for the CZs is the inverted rail, specifically, the lack of slide purchase for charging the pistol and clearing malfunctions. Has anyone had problems with this?

The bigger concern you'll have with the P07 or P09 is the flat safety is extremely difficult to reliably disengage, especially in gloves. I have been searching for your very quest, and it is a difficult one if you also want a great SAO trigger.

Czs were OK but my 1911 loving muscle memory doesnt like the location of the safety lever, HK P30 was pretty OK but the trigger is bad IMO. FNX seemed nice but I didnt like the safety as much, and was turned off by their frame issues (which are fixed?)

I was consigned for the long, grueling, years of saving to get a Wilson but...

This is what I was going to suggest. I have the P226 Legion SAO, and it is a fine firearm indeed! A bit large for EDC, at least for me, but it is one of my favorite pistols.

That was my solution. It's been my EDC for only a month but I dont find it big or hard to carry, personally. I was holding out for the release of the 229 Legion SAO but realized the 229, apart from the barrel length, isnt really any smaller than the 226 and with the wider heavy frame it's almost the same weight.

As a cheaper option the 226 comes in SAO, as well as the Elite version. Me, I need the undercut and beavertail to make Sig "work" for my hands.

A cheaper option would be the 9mm/22 TCM RIA 1911s. I've had good luck with RIA in the past, my 10mm will stand toe to toe with much more expensive 1911s in the accuracy department, and is dead reliable.

CZ-75. The grips fits many people. Kadet conversion kit.

I believe the Taurus TH9 meets all your requirements. Quality wise I don't know but feature wise it fits what you want.

CZ 75 D compact has become my EDC (just really suits my needs)...... my sig, colt, ruger, ppk, browning and several others mostly stand by or see range time.... Fit, how it points and how it shoots for you are all part of thr equation... good luck, lots of good choices out there.

CZ and a few aftermarket manufacturers make extended manual safeties. CZ at least sells them one side at a time so if someone wanted an ambi safety they'd have to buy both sides. At least that's how it was a little while back.

Those offer a bit more purchase and are a bit easier to flick off with or without gloves. I had one from the CZ custom shop for awhile, pretty cool.

For the P07? Those must be relatively recent.

Another suggestion, the FN-509 tactical. Not mine but I had three days trigger time with one. I would own one in a heartbeat, but the credit card only has so much capacity! 20180715_111846-01.jpg

No, you were right. Poor reading on my part. I apparently read 'P01' despite it clearly saying 'P07'.

Ok, shoot. I searched high and low for one when I still had a P07, no dice. If they were available and nice I might have been tempted to get another P07

If you like the G20 but want cheaper practice a Glock 17 or 19 makes a lot of sense. The guns operate the same, just with cheaper 9mm ammo.

If you use the "overhand" racking method, it can be an adjustment. If you rack the slide by grabbing it with your thumb and side of your forefinger, no problems at all.

Note that CZ and other slide-in-frame designs are quite popular in USPSA and IPSC. Malfunctions there are cleared on the clock, and some starts are unloaded, with gun loading taking place on the clock. If it wasn't possible to learn to operate the slide just as fast as a slide-around-frame design, that would be a problem in competition. It isn't. All you have to do is let go of the notion that it is more operator to rack overhand.

Almost all of my 9mms are hammer style. There are the High Powers and clones, the Beretta 92, the Browning BDM, the Star UltraStar, the Sigs, the Walther P38 and likely several I've missed.

+1

I'd say CZ 75 or HK P30. I like the P30 ergos more, personally.

One pistol that meets your criteria that hasn't been mentioned yet is the Bersa TPR9. I don't own one and Bersa grips don't fit my hand all that well, but they have been well reviewed.
I do own, and have for 9 years, a CZ85B, and even with arthritis in my hands I have no problem racking it. They are excellent pistols.
