As of late, I have been steadily adding to my BP pistol collection. Yesterday, I acquired these two beauties in a trade.

The 3rd Model Dragoon is an Armi San Marcos manufactured in 1977. It's in very nice shape. The front sight needs to be reattached, as it fell off. I believe it is not factory, being that it's a brass blade. The gun is cut for a shoulder stock and has the rear leaf sight to go with it. The only thing I don't really care for is the grips. Someone has embellished them with brass tacks and a brass eagle. It's on both sides too. So I'll be looking for a set of grips.

The Rogers and Spencer pistol is in nice shape too. I don't think it's stainless steel, I believe it may be nickel plated. It's engraved as well. Not sure about the engraving. On newer BP reproductions it's easy to tell that the engraving is done by laser. This gun looks hand done to me. I of course could be wrong. It was manufactured by Euroarms in 1981.

Can't wait to shoot them! I'll give a full report when I do.

Great find. IIRC, the Military 3rd Model Dragoons had a blade front sight on them. Least wise all I remember seeing or had did IINM

Thanks Fingers. I'm guessing that the blade on this one is correct then. I would assume it's a military model due to the cut outs and extra screws for the buttstock. The boss on the bottom of the blade for mounting it, is kind of boogered up. I'm going to have to reshape it with a file and I'll probably solder it back on so it stays put.

Nice. Some of the older Italian repros do have what appears to be real master level engraving. I think Navy Arms, in particular, used to sell these.

Hard to tell from the picture, but at one time Euroarms sold a Rogers & Spencer in something they called "London Gray" finish. I believe that's what it was called and I don't know what the finishing process was, but it certainly wasn't blued. I foolishly passed up a chance at a new one when they were available.

From an article about the Euroarms Rogers and Spencer revolver on gunmart.net:

Euroarms offer a full blue version as well as the model tested here which is in their rust resilient ‘London Grey’ finish, a not-too-highly-polished stainless steel.

I'm rather a fan of the Rogers & Spencer and that one looks quite fancy. Very nice.

ShotgunDave, if you can post a closer, sharper picture of the R&S it should be pretty easy to tell if it's the high quality hand engraving. I have seen some of the ones with full coverage offered at $1500 - 2000 but I'm not sure if they actually sell at those prices. I passed up a super nice Navy Arms Uberti 1851 with full coverage for $500 because I had just bought another gun and didn't have the money.

Yes Sir, happy to oblige. Hopefully these look good and maybe we can figure it out.

Here's the engraving on one of my Navies for comparison. It's obvious that this is laser engraving.

Wow, I have not seen one like that. It does not look like the master engraved ones I was talking about in that it lacks a punch dot background. It does look very nice though, definitely not laser. It might be stamped but it would be about the nicest stamping I've ever seen. Sorry, I thought I could be more help. Here is one of the master engraved ones for reference.

Oh yes, I can see the difference. The R&S looks to lay somewhere between the two Navies. Better than my laser engraved gun and not as good as your master engraved gun. I've seen pictures of other guns like mine but haven't seen any descriptions about them. More research is in my future!

By the way, your engraved Navy is GORGEOUS!
