Hello,
I just purchased and am waiting to receive a Flattop 44 Special (model 5232). While it is shipping I am also wanting to place a Midway order for dies, bullets, brass, and some wooden grips. I'm getting a little confused with all of the "they fit this, but not that" verbiage about the grips. I expect the gun to be in my hands before the current Midway free shipping deal expires on May 10, so waiting to check serial # and/or backstrap width is an option. But since it's easy to ask, does anyone know if these will fit my soon to be new Gun? https://www.midwayusa.com/product/5...ckhawk-vaquero-new-single-six-models-rosewood.

Thanks!

I don't think they will fit. The flattops have a different grips than the regular black hawk, single six, super Blackhawk and OLD vaquero.

I believe grips for the new vaquero is what you should be looking for.

The Anniversary and Convertible Flattops and the New Vaqueros all use the XR00300 grip frame (mistakenly called XR3’s since they nearly replicate the original XR3 profile).

The 70046 Single Six, Blackhawk, Vaquero grip panels in the OP’s link are made for the XR3-Red frame and do not fit the New Vaquero or Convertible Blackhawks.

Ruger has done a lot of odd, rule breaking limited runs, especially distributor exclusives, so yours might not fit the norm, but by and large, Convertibles and Anniversary Flattops will have the XR00300 (XR3) sized grip panels.

IlikeSA’s link should be the correct size, although the Hogue product, not Ruger’s offering.

The easiest test - if the steel backstrap is 1/2” wide, you need original Vaquero/Blackhawk XR3-Red compatible grip shingles. If your backstrap is 7/16” wide, then you need New Vaquero/Flattop/Anniversary/Convertible XR3/XR00300 compatible grip shingles.

Thanks for the replies! Since I should have the gun by tomorrow I will probably just wait and measure the backstrap. But now I too am pretty convinced that the Hogue grip referenced above is the one.

Thanks again!

Welcome to the wonderfully confusing world of Ruger Blackhawks .
To add more confusion are you getting an old model flat top , or new model flat top .
The grips from Midway do not mention the flat top model at all , either fitting or not fitting .
The good news is Midway has a simple return policy....if they don't fit call midway explain what you ordered, what gun you have and they will help you order the correct ones and authorize the return of the first grips...
It will all get worked out...Midway is very helpful.

Old or new model doesn’t matter. All of the Flattops as Ruger offerings have been on the same XR3/XR00300 sized grip frame.

Brought her home today. 7/16" is the measurement of the back strap. I got a 20% coupon coming 44speciala.jpg for stuff ordered from ruger.com (after I send them some info) so I'll probably order some grip panels from them.

Before you order the factory laminate grips,do yourself a favor and check out some aftermarket grips. They can be had for decent prices and look amazing. Here is two of my sets from chigs grips for my Blackhawk and single six. Chad makes grips for your frame too. He is very easy to deal with and prices are very fair. The fit is great and imo (grips are very subjective) they feel better than the laminates. They also fit he frame better than the factory laminates. My sets were 55 bucks and 65 bucks. But if you keep an eye out he gets some really amazing looking wood. And if you don't see something you like just contact him, he has stuff not listed on his site.

I hope you really enjoy that blackhawk! Single actions are addictive!

Edit to add:

I believe the laminates that Ruger has are made by Altamont grips. Altamont has them for a good bit cheaper (minus the logo)

Possibly you will like the stock grips just fine.

I know I didn't care for the factory plastic grips when I got my Flattop .44 Special so I ordered a set of Rosewood grips from Ruger. They were okay but I really like the appearance of Ivory grips with a blued revolver so I ordered a pair of American Holly grips and they were exactly what I was looking for (and something i could afford)!

I'm almost done with my 3rd 5 gallon pail of wheel weights shot threw my Liberty Model 1976 .357 Blackhawlk, not to mention all the full power loads I've shot threw it. Still locks up tight as new . I did put a pair of Packmeir Presentation grips on it to fit my hand better. Very accurate and a joy to shoot. hdbiker

Dad got one of those in stainless (200 yr). I have shot a ton of 357446 and 12-2400 out of it since '76. Best group ever, sandbagged, 5" at 100. Can't do it now, however.
