So the local shop got a nice 686-2 in. 8 3/8 Barrel. Nice combat stocks. aaaand..... Factory milled for scope mounting with the correct factory scope mounts.

I know there were only about 1200 of this specific configuration made, and the correct scope mounts are hard to come by.

The downsides- I have never been into scoped handguns, and I would most likely just shoot it without one. The price is steep at $1,300. They listed it on gunbroker and it didn't sell. Its been sitting in the case for about a month now. I would be a buyer at a number south of 1K.

What is a fair price for one of these? And is an 8 3/8 barrel really not that much fun to shoot compared to a 6 incher?

Talk me out of it. Or into it.

I bought one LNIB for $825 about 5 years ago. I love shooting mine. I believe it is the most accurate revolver I have.

I know where there is a silhouette and a regular 8 3/8". I believe I could get either for about 800 bucks.

In my area it would be difficult if not impossible to get over $1000 for that gun. Long barrels are less in demand

Same here in my neck of the woods. For me the 6" barrel has a decent balance and feel to it; the 8 3/8" barrel is just a bit too long.

Maybe go in and offer them $900 and see what they say. Never hurts to ask.

From what I see snubs and the long barrels bring more money than 4 and 6 inchers.

Well they had a sale yesterday on used guns... I paid 1K out the door. I got home and took the scope mounts off and I didn't realize the top rib was milled with slots too :uhoh:. I know its just aesthetics but now I have buyers remorse.

A fine looking 686 with or without the scope ring notches. You did great on the price now get a going out to the range to see what it will do!

I would not doubt your decision, I think you did well. I don't see an aesthetic problem at all. Like you said, it's a rare gun and now you own one of them. Don't forget the range report!

Stick an unmagnified red-dot tube in those rings. Magnified scopes on handguns are not everyone's cup of tea, but unmagnified dots... pretty much everyone shoots better with those than with irons.

I have to agree, red dots are easy and fast to pickup. If quick target acquisition is important it's the way to go.
