New Background Check Policy at Walmart

In Ca it’s a background check and a 10- day wait on top of that...

Thie background check will also go into effect for ammo purchases starting July 1. :cuss:

Stay safe.

Utah, too.

The only thing the retailer needs to do to sell a gun to a CCW holder is to call the Bureau of Criminal Investigation to confirm that the permit is still valid.

I lived in maine my whole life. Never knew that was possible. I assumed a background check was mandatory for all firearms from a FFL. I am jealous of the freedom.
It isn't freedom if I have to pay for a license to exercise my right to carry and it isn't freedom to have to deal with a background check for property that can be bought with cash. If anything it's nothing more than an expanded privilege.

Yes, but that ship has sailed.

Alabama is a CCW = background check state.
Also computerized documentation which only takes about twice as long as paper because it has to be printed out and breathed on by manager.

I only buy socks and beans etc at Walmart.

Wait? You can buy a firearm with out a background check in your state if you have a concealed carry permit? What state is that?\

Ohio. It really isn't that surprising. You undergo a new background check every time you renew your CCW. That is one of the reasons that even though Ohio is headed towards Constitutional carry, I'll probably keep my permit.

Doesn’t seem like a big deal to me. Even if you bought a new firearm every month, what’s an extra 5 to 10 minutes/month to help make sure you’re good to go?

Nebraska

Nebraska also requires a purchase permit for handguns...bypassing NICS.

The purchase permit works for all guns, long, shot or hand.

Incidentely, Dunhams ran a NICS check on me last Christmas....and I had an 01 FFL!!!!

Virginia isn't one of those states.

However, of the whole one firearms I've purchased from Wally world it wasn't any hassle, just a waiting game.

They've also bought into the whole "21 to purchase any ammo" mindset, at least around here.

Here to. I was buying handgun ammo at 18 told them it was for a rifle which was technically true as I did have a marlin 1894 at the time but I also had a superblackhawk.

I wish it was only 5 or 10 minutes in Wisconsin. We get the NICS check for every gun purchase, and the typical response I get is "I'm sorry sir, there's been a delay."

Then I go home and wait for the store to call to tell me I've been approved. A week goes by. If after a week there's been no response on the NICS check we're allowed to pick up the gun with, or without an approval.

So now I just assume every gun purchase is going to require a one week waiting period.

You probably have the same name as some prohibited person.

Yesterday I picked up at Walmart two fillet knives (for cleaning fish). I had to give my birth date. The clerk apologized profusely, said it is a rule for buying a knife. At least he didn't ask me to show ID. Maybe because I am probably old enough to be his great-grandmother...

There are many people in our country that would be very dangerous to others owning a firearm - we all know that - you have seen them in person or in the news. Background checks for CCW or purchase or both are fine - we know that - no biggie. My rights are intact - I still bring my gun home, I can carry a gun and I can shoot the gun. The government is clumsy except when it is destroying things - that is why we are so good at war. I do not mind a background check - no biggie to me. Politicians pander to their base - extreme views are just a reflection of their base - fear toward a politician is misguided - fearing the base is much more concise. Lots of people fear a gun instead of the person with a gun - the person has rights but the gun does not so the gun is the easiest target.
All of the discord and irrational thinking makes sense if you look at the people around you - look at the people around you - how can there not be discord. Soylent Green is made out of people!

If I am correct, Florida waives the waiting period for CCW holders on firearms purchases, this may have changed since RINO Rick Scott jerked his knee about Parkland.

I get the same story when I buy ammo...have to show my driver's license to verify that I'm over the legal age. I guess the white hair and wrinkles isn't enough proof! LOL

About 3 or 4 yrs ago I purchased a 17 and 22m from Walmart they had on clearance, I had to fill out form on their computer and wait for approval, then wait for a manager to walk me to the door like I was a criminal, They wouldn't sell me any ammo first I had to lock up the rifles then return to make any other purchases

Thinking back I should have open carried when I returned:)

Man, I have filled out the two forms in Virginia so many Times, I have them memorized. I was stunned to see that in some states you could just show your CCW Lic. I have never bought a gun from Walmart. Never have seen anyone behind the counter to wait on People.

Do you give your SSN or leave it blank?

Yeah, that's one of the perks of having a CHL in Arkansas, and many other states.

I imagine that this isn't a political issue for WalMart. It's just easier when you do business on a scale that large to have standard practices that are adhered to everywhere, and not have different rules for different stores.

WalMart has good sales sometimes on firearms. I picked up my Weatherby Vanguard wit the tan spider web stock for $390. They had 3 left and I had them bring them all out so I could look at the target. Only one of them had all three shots touching, so it went home with me.
Don't count Wally World out. I make a habit of at least walking by and glancing to see if a sale catches my eye.
