always waned one but the steel mil type sights i cant use anymore with my old eyes. so i pass on surplus anymore or any guns without good combat dots or upgraded sights i can see easily in all light conditions, funny as i never worried when i was younger and thought the old timers were nuts, now i get it......

Just realized I never posted any photos. The shiny pimp PD I mentioned:

No parts anymore means I had to get a friend to weld up the slide stop on my Super B to work right. It works but took a few tries and it's... not pretty:

Star was an awesome company, because they say all sorts of common sense things, in the actual manuals. Carry cocked and locked, and you are an idiot if you lower the hammer, etc:

Or, how to remove the mag safeties! In the manual! http://star-firearms.com/info/mags.shtml Scroll down here and I've listed the procedure for several of the series.

They were unabashedly a mil gun producer. 8 gram (124 gr) bullets are what all the 9mm parabellum/luger guns are designed around so yeah, at range that's what the sights are regulated for, etc. JTCs were semi-common back in the day, so they tend to fire hollow points just fine as well.

“Parts are not Available”..... This is a very misleading statement. More than a few types of parts are easily available for My Star BM.

A Firing Pin somehow appeared in my mailbox last week!
“Jacks First” gun parts. It was very easy—No Vice/fixed clamp was needed—to remove the thick roll pin, swap firing pin (use the spring) and tap it back in. YouTube videos—-

Don’t dry fire BMs. I only did so 8-10 times, but years ago in Spain, nobody knows.

Many parts are simply not available anymore. No, not all parts, but stock is getting low on anything that was only produced by the factory.

About two years when this became clear, I went all the way to calling people. Ick. I hate talking to people. I went down the chain, several levels, to the importers and parts houses the other parts guys get their stuff from. Explained myself, didn't just look for some I needed, but asked generally so I could share. There's NO depth to anyone's inventory. These second level suppliers have simply nothing. No more secret stashes in the back of the warehouse anymore. What's listed is all there is.

So... plan accordingly. If you want to shoot one forever, get more copies of it. Visit local gunsmiths, and see if they have demilled ones you can buy off them for the parts. Etc.

Those grips really make a nice gun even nicer. I'm thinking about picking one up but the magazine availability & high prices make me hesitate.

Magazines aren't hard to find. Even after they are exhausted you can use a P225 magazine instead. I only paid $150 for my Star BM. Bought a holster, spare magazine, and the wood grips all for $80.

Sorry if I missed it earlier in the thread...

But where did those gorgeous wood grips come from?

I guess it's like potato chips. You can't eat just one. Bought another Star BM after liking the first one so much. This one from 1979 is even in a little better condition. Bought the extra mag and new grips. Not too bad after the clean up.

Do the Sig mags fit flush like the OEM mags?
