Budget 9mm pistol

For a beginner on a budget for about $200.00 get a Hi Point 916. They usually go bang and when finances get better one can upgrade their armory to a more expensive pistol like a glock. It used to be that 9mm S&W sigmas were under $300 and that would be next best choice if the price is still that low.

Alexanders in north GA has the S&W SD9VE for 199.00 and I picked up 7 mags at surplus store for my sd40 for 10.00 ea recently. If he doesn't like the trigger get an Apex kit for about 25.00, everyone that shoots mine likes it.
I have an early version of the S&W SD9VE with a terrible trigger that i purchased used for $200 which is what his wife paid for it a few years ago. I will leave it that way for safety reasons since I wear when working outside and keep it around house everywhere. The last thing I killed with it was a possum that my dog found in hole under a strump and I have shot water moccasins with it.
I have sat on it and had it fall behind seat cushions and such and that is not safe. I finally found a bandolier style holster for it that for me is much safer. When not wearing it i simply drape it on something near by and even when bathing hang it within reach. It highly resistant to rust and its holster is normally soaked in sweat from our florida weather. Function is 100% so far.
I wear this holster daily when driving my tractor, taking trees, splitting wood, etc. This holster has stood up quite well. It is not quick draw, but the gun is always there and with the dogs around there is always a warning.

Guys this is for ccw and problem solved I found a Ruger LC9S for $180 and since I owed him a favor I just snagged it he loves it by the way got him a box of 124 grain fmj we are shooting it tomorrow if it eats that and some other stuff I have I’ll give him a box of 124 grain hst or 147 whatever he shoots better

I bought my EC9s used and apparently unfired at a pawn shop for $175.00, and they gave me a box of ammo. One spare 7 round magazine: $22.00. One spare 9 round magazine: $31.00. Hogue Handall: $9.50. DeSantis OWB holster: $23.00. It's accurate and easy to carry if not terribly easy to shoot. (The Hogue Handall helps.) I painted the front sight with glow-in-the-dark paint, and it's my in-town EDC. It backs up my S&W Model 469 when I'm traveling (and I travel a lot).

It should work very well for your friend. Well done.

1. Not terribly easy to shoot is a deal breaker for a carry gun.

2. What makes it not terribly easy to shoot.

I have long fingers, and the grip is mighty narrow. People with small hands may not have an issue with it. Once I put the Hogue Handall on it, the little Ruger became much easier to shoot. My backup revolver when I was wearing a badge was a S&W Model 642-2, and it was not terribly easy to shoot, either. On the other hand, my 4 inch S&W Model 65-1 is easy to shoot with .38 Special or .357 Magnum ammo, and my S&W Model 469 is easy to shoot. Concealment easier with the little Ruger.

Canik ONE is $280 at GrabAGun. https://grabagun.com/canik-tp9sf-one-9mm-18-1-4-46.html

18 round magazine, awesome trigger. Metal sights.
+1 on the Canik. Got it from Grabagun when they had Grab a quote. Paid 278 with shipping then 20.00 at the FFL. Outstanding shooter with no FTE/FTF in 200+ rounds so far and one of the best triggers on a new firearm out of the box with no mods. The S&W Shield 9 and 45 (2.0 models) are also excellent semi's, but those have smaller round capacities (7 and 8 round magazines)than a Canik (18 round magazine) and are intended for a different purpose (CCW). You won't be disappointed either way and whatever route you go will be <400.00

$400 and shopping online can net you a M&P 2.0, Canik, Springfield XD/XD Mod2, CZ P10c... For something smaller, M&P Shield or a Walther PPS M2. Both can be had from $250-$350... With a $400 budget for new pistol, I wouldn't buy buy a Taurus, those cheap Rugers, a budget gun, or a used gun. All of the aforementioned are top tier striker fired polymer pistols at budget prices. Except for the Canik, all use to be at or over $400 just a few years ago, but now can be had for much less.

Wait, what? I agree with you but I am amazed that you just said you wouldn't buy a Taurus
Nothing against them, and they'll get the job done. I'd suggest them for someone who had a smaller budget or who just wanted or was simply interested in one. With that said, if I had a higher budget, there are nicer guns out there for the money... Likewise, if I had a $1k budget for a pistol, Glocks and all the other pistols I mentioned would not be on my list.
