Hey all,
Just curious what knife or knives you use /used specifically in your profession. If you care to , share the field you work in, knife details and why you prefer the specific cutlery you choose.

I'm in the automotive industry and a work knife has to be inexpensive yet durable, easy to sharpen and can not have a pocket clip as a scratch on a painted surface or drag mark on a leather seat is not an option and must be large enough for a full grip and blade long enough to cut rubber hoses and pry on things in a pinch plus be able to be a reasonable self defense tool if i don't have anything better handy. I generally work on hot rods and customs but also a decent number of high end sport and luxury cars as well as track only race cars, the last thing i need is to have a pocket clip doing damage to a car worth more than my house :what:.

Here's mine- a svord peasant, chosen for multiple reasons.i need the durability and sharpening properties of carbon steel, no clip just a lanyard to drag it from my pocket, large enough for tasks and to stay put in my pocket and cheap so if it slides out and gets lost it's no big deal. This one has about 3 years use on it, was originally an orange handle, i fixed the poor edge it came with and blackened it in vinegar, has been great and would recomend one to anybody who doesn't need to be ultra tacticool. Ugly, aint it? 20191006_191743.jpg

The no clip to avoid scratches brought back come good memories. My grandfather owned a service station when he was younger, and wore the all leather work belts that have the buckle hardware enclosed in the leather. He couldn't afford to scratch a customer's car's paint while leaning over to wash the windshield or check fluids under the hood. The belts were so durable, and got so used to wearing them, that they were all he wore with other work uniforms in another part of the industry after he had to close the service station.

Your knife has the beauty of honest use.

Smith & Wesson branded cheapy knife.

I am a supervisor on a powdercoat production line.

My knife typically sees plastic banding and plastic wrap along with the occasional sticker that needs removing.

Takes a nice edge quickly...and loses it just about as fast LOL. The partial serrations are actually decent, and I like the thumbstud way more than I thought I would. 20191006_204019.jpg

I sell large truck parts. My knife usually opens boxes and cuts plastic and rubber lines. I have carried a SOG Flash2 for about 3 years now:

My last job, for 15 years, was video and lighting in a theatrical situations. Think electrical. A pocket knife was indespensible. Being able to deploy said knife with one hand was important. I love the Emerson Wave method for its simplicity and reliability. Emerson and Southern Grind models are expensive, so I ended up with Kershaw's Emerson model. If I lose one in a crawl space or fly area not a big loss.

When I leave the house in the morning, I'm not sure just what the day will bring, and I try to be prepared for anything.
This combo of knives has served me well for three or four years. The sak needs no introduction, it is my bottle opener, sandwich cutter, awl, screwdriver, cork puller...tweezers....Dinty Moore opener.
The little Gerber boxcutter is the real story here. I have a dewalt 100 blade dispenser in my shop that keeps me in blades. This little knife is my go-to favorite for box cutting, seed or fertilizer bag slashing, seal breaking, zip tie cutting, corrosion scraping, hose cutting, wire stripping, wood shaving..oh, and a big one...cutting grass or other material that gets wrapped on shafts or axles...shall I go on? This little one-handed opener is definitely my go to cutter,.....but I don't leave home without the SAK.
I'm not big on pocket clips, but this Gerber needs to be accessed with one hand, so I use the pocket clip. It has also doubled as a money clip when I'm boating in my swimming duds.

Kershaw leek presently as an office bound Quality Engineer, I mainly use it for opening packages, scraping excess plastic flash from parts, and occasionally scribing my initials into things for identification (to make sure they don't do the old switch-a-roo).

In a past life it was a generic gerber/schrade/buck/kershaw folder and an electrician splice knife in addition to a Stanley utility knife. I bought pocket knives on price and ease of sharpening as they would get "borrowed" or lost at times.

Fallkniven H1. It's got a thick spine, and I don't have another use for it, so I take it to work. Steel fabrication. I abuse it, and sharpen it on the belt sander. I won't do that with my other knives.

I do networking. I need to open boxes, cut cat6, cut fiber, cut zip ties, and who knows what else. I used a Mini Grip. I use the clip on my pocket so I can grab it with either hand. I also like I can open it with a single hand. I like the serrated blade to saw zip ties open.

Just because it has a pocket clip doesn't mean it has to be clipped to your pocket. Most of my knives have them, but they usually stay in my pocket without being clipped to a pocket. If I'm carrying one of the bigger versions it may go in a back pocket and clipped. I want one handed opening and a good lock and I have several to choose from. But most of the time a Benchmade or Spyderco is in my pocket with the occasional Kershaw. I choose each day depending on my mood.

Case Trapperlock with pocket clip and yellow Delrin handles. I bought it about 3 years ago, and after tens of thousands of hay strings, feed sacks, boxes, and everything else, I've almost sharpened the blade off of it. Skinned a couple deer and many squirrels and rabbits with it, too. The one-hand opening is great. I will say that I'll likely replace it this Christmas with a Case Kickstart Folding Hunter. I like the shape of that blade a little better, and the kickstart intrigues me. Otherwise, I'd go back with what I've got.

I work in the office setting. I carried primarily the CS Recon 1 but now I have added the Gunsite to my carry to. I couldn't decide which one to take so now they both come along. Primarily they stay put as I view them as defensive blades and I work with mostly women who are afraid of anything that's not a butter knife. When I need to cut something the Gerber Dime multitool does the job without scaring my hapless colleagues. IMG_20191007_172736465.jpg

Heres a knife i used to carry a few years ago.
Same line of work (mechanic) but a different job.
Kershaw junkyard dog (before they made the blade by brazing 2 different steels together). Painted GOLD because it was the toughest paint i could find that i didn't have to buy, that actually held up well with not much chipping. If you're familiar with that knife you may notice the tail of the pocket clip has been cut off and rounded. This knife takes a razors edge easily and holds it fairly well it seems at the expense of being a bit brittle - blade has chipped but was easy enough to sharpen out.Not gonna lie, she's pretty ugly too:rofl:. And no, i dont have a good reason why i painted it, just got it in my head i was going to... 20191007_231527.jpg

Im an aquaculturist by trade, I've been a mechanic, truck driver, and other stuff...pretty much I've always just carried a 3.75"-4" bladed folder.
I loose and break knives, so mine varied, but I've used a number leeks.

I use a folding replaceable blade utility knife sold at any home center or lumber yard as a primary work knife.

Heavy equipment mechanic by necessity to pay for my life. Wood, metal, and leatherworker for my own enjoyment. Reluctant gunsmith to a select few. Home renovator for my wife.

I rotate mine pretry regularly, but for the last 6 months I've pretty settled on a ZT 303. No reason beside the fact that I like it.
