Just stopped off at a local UPS store to ship a set of walnut Luger grips to my son...not the gun. Just the grips. The clerk asked what I was shipping and the response was: “We don’t accept any guns or gun parts.” Called UPS Customer Service and confirmed this policy. Any guns, gun parts, gun scopes or anything else having to do with firearms has to be delivered in person to their hub location. In my case that’s 62 miles one way. This is nothing more than a corporate political agenda aimed at anyone that dares to own a firearm. From this point forward I will not use UPS and I will not do business with anyone that ships UPS. UPS has thrown the gauntlet down. Let’s talk to them through their wallet! Think we can’t make a difference? Does anyone remember the Railway Express Company? 140 year old company that went belly up because of poor customer service and poor management. Let’s make UPS the next Railway Express example! They have it coming!!!!

I hate UPS.

I asked the delivery guy to shove the yellow cards under my door because I didn't want him to red flag my house for burglars since I had a gun collection.

Next thing I know they stopped delivering anything and would just ship it back after a few weeks. I called them up and eventually I was told that the driver said that I threatened him with a gun!

What a bunch of A-holes!

This is not a new policy. As far as I know, it has always been UPS policy that certain shipments (including firearms and ammunition) must be delivered to hubs, and will not be accepted at the local 'UPS stores'. It's certainly been true for at least the last 15 years.

It's important to understand that local UPS stores are franchises, not actual UPS holdings, and that they are not staffed by UPS employees. The policy allows actual UPS employees, who are trained to deal with the legalities of shipping things like firearms and ammunition, to deal with the shipments rather than having non-UPS locations and non-UPS employees accept firearm/ammo shipments.

Other shippers have similar policies.

I don't know if the policy about firearm parts is new or not.

As far as I know UPS and Fed Ex have similar policies when it comes to shipping gun parts and guns. Both are absurd. I have shipped magazines and grips by USPS several times without incident. I just answer no when asked if the package contains anything hazardous, etc. the last time I shipped a gun I paid my LGS to do it. They shipped by Priority mail to the FFL. I paid postage costs plus $25 Service fee. That was a lot cheaper than using Fed Ex or UPS.

USPS would’ve been simpler.

Not buying from anyone that does business with UPS is basically like not doing business online.

Sorry you’re mad, but this has been how they operated for a long time.

It would have been cheaper to ship it USPS Priority Mail. If it fits, it ships. Grips, stocks, etc shouldn't be a problem. Guns and ammo is a big no, unless you have a FFL.
Did something change recently? A few years ago long guns were ok to ship usps by a non ffl.

As mentioned, The UPS Store is a mostly-separate entity from UPS itself (although they do have UPS ID) and they do not and have not accepted guns since forever as far as I know. FedEx is similar, but you can ship firearms through their former Kinkos locations. Both companies accept firearms shipments through their hubs.

As for boycotting them, good luck. Gun owners (certainly ones that will actually boycott them) represent almost nothing to them in terms of volume. Besides which, you would end up not being able to order from about one third to half the companies on the internet if we assume varying splits of the market to UPS, FedEx and USPS.

I think Fed Ex may be the same way.
I just have the local gun shop here in town ship any gun related items for me.

It is for guns, or was when I had to ship one in for service a few years ago.

Though, when I sent my rifle in for the remington trigger recall I believe the ups driver picked it up right at my door, I just had to sign for it.

I shipped some very valuable items through UPS, insured them for quite a bit and had to go through similar procedures. Not gun stuff but had to go to the hub, pick up at the hub at another city. So, I would chill out a bit. The little franchised store doesn't want to be on the hook for things going awry.

Also, proclaiming a boycott on an Internet forum is a puff of rear end emissions in the wind.

I’ve had to go to a hub to pick up stuff, but only for “signature required” things, and I live in such a place where they will not deliver to my door.
I’ve had no problem shipping out ammo, or “machine parts”

I have shipped guns back to the manufacturer for warranty or recall work and used my local FedEx terminal. The counter guy actually recognized the SWC address on Roosevelt Ave in Springfield, MA and said he has shipped stuff back to them, as well. No issues.

My last gun part shipping exercise was through Fedex. An AR upper only was an airmail must.

My wounded chronograph's box has a picture of a rifle on it, which freaked out the UPS clerk until I explained it was test electronics.

Yes....

If it is ok to ship it via the PO, Flat rate boxes are the way to go if it fits.
Checked UPS once for a box of brass just to\ see, $29:eek:, Flat rate box at PO $14 and got there twice as quick!
(and the PO gives you the boxes for free)

That's odd...I've sent and received guns to Ruger via UPS and have never had a problem.

My UPS store received gun parts packages for me hundreds of times. No big deal. Never tried a whole pistol.

Boycott that store, not the shipper. But telling them that two slivers of wood were ''gun parts'' was a hardcore stupid move.

Guns can be sent via UPS, just not through the specific storefronts named "The UPS Store". All of these locations will tell you the same thing - the gun has to go to an actual UPS hub. If the gun is going back to the manufacturer or there is an RMA label, just box it up and hand it to the driver when he shows up at your door.

I told these two idiots exactly what I was shipping...not gun parts, but wooden grips for a handgun and I will be damned if I’m going to lie or apologize to anyone for exercising what’s left of my 2nd Amendment rights. I’m done with this kind of anti-gun political agenda and anyone that tries to shove this down my throat. Telling the truth... a hardcore stupid move? Pretty easy to see what your values are.

local UPS store

Can you be more specific? Was this a corporate UPS location or a place like Mailboxes To Go? If the latter, you're dealing with a franchisee or even a business that contracts with UPS instead of UPS itself (there are several around here that fit both descriptions).

not do business with anyone that ships UPS

You're going to have to give up buying anything then except produce from local stands then.
