A concept I've had in mind for awhile now...

The See-All site is an interesting concept, but I've tried it and it's not quite ready for prime time, in my opinion. I find it very hard to use. I do wish the Ruger American Rifles had a front site, and you could add a MBUS rear site. That would accomplish your goal.

Would you be able to match the height of your front and rear sights?

This sounds like an underground railroad, or the Von Trapps leaving Austria.

In reality, the Von Trapps' exit was no more dramatic than carrying their suitcases to the train station.

Savage 340. Also sold as the Stevens 325 and a few other names.

Very smooth action. Love them in 30-30 round bolt. Hate the butterknife handle ones.

I always try to buy them up when I find them cheap. Only problem is that the 30-30 doesn't like to single load without a magazine.

Springfield 840 was another designation. It's too short to handload spitzers, too... won't feed through the magazine, and can't eject a live round out the top. Good rifles for 150gr RN.

I have no idea what "Watchman service" is, but if SHTF, etc. who cares what the State laws are?
I have been looking at the sight to use on Rifles that have no ability to mount iron sights (the majority of bolt action rifles on the market) I have seen that the SeeAll has an updated version (MK2 designation). What has been the major issue you've ran into with the SeeAll ?

So I’ll take another swing at this one.

I have owned some specifically “50 state” guns, purchased because I wanted to be able to bring them on long road trips with minimal potential for hassle.

The overall best in my experience was a Rossi 1892 in .454 casull with a red dot. With a 16” barrel its a light handy 8-shot that isn’t too scary looking but is effective and has a loading gate for topping off. The a 20” barrel gives 2 more rds in the magazine and it’s legal in Canada too.

The bolt guns are better for longer range but that’s problematic for several reasons. Detachable magazines seem nice but it’s also a complicated minefield. Semi-autos likewise bring in complications in some areas.

Then again, a mossberg 500 would do just fine as well. Load up with slugs or buck.

And I’ve heard people advocate with a perfectly straight face for a break action 20ga shotgun for this use. Train enough to be quick and it’ll do better than you think.

Maybe I am misunderstanding this whole thing, but by watchman I am thinking someone who is helping evacuate and escort loved ones from a potentially dangerous situation. If an event was causing the need to evacuate, I doubt waiting hours or in some cases maybe days for a relative to show up is going to be an option.

I would hope people following the current events would start to think about their families safety and maybe buy and train with their own firearm in case of emergency.

My furthest relative lives in Florida by herself, and she owns several firearms and knows how to use them.

I know every situation is different, but I guess I personally don't see an immediate need for a rifle like the OP stated.

I don’t follow the logic such you’re entering an area which has fallen into such rampant lawlessness that local police could not and would not provide sufficient protection for the evacuating locals, requiring additional family/friends to be employed as a security force, but NOT a level of lawlessness that an officer would not also remain unavailable to shakedown said private security force for firearms compliance...

Well now you do. Atlanta. Right now.

No, I don’t. If there is no law enforcement presence to enforce the laws protecting citizens and property, then there is no law enforcement presence to enforce firearms compliance laws either.

My statement remains to apply, ESPECIALLY IN THE EXAMPLE OF “BLUE FLU“ AREAS - if an area is so overran that nobody comes when called because of violence, murder, robbery, and destruction, then nobody is going to come when called because of an illegal high capacity magazine either.

There were a very few that didn't get a case of "Blue Flu" though.
Besides I haven't seen or heard much from the goings on in Atlanta. But it is Friday and we all know how the crowds like to conduct their "business" during the weekends.

It was an idea. *shrugs*

I'm not saying a 50 states gun was a bad idea. I maybe should have added more to my response.

I think a 50 states gun would not be a bad idea for something like a truck gun, where you have a permanently mounted lockbox under the back seat, and you keep a couple mags and ammo in there. A fellow on YouTube made such a box that when the windows are up and the seats were down was invisible. And if they managed to get in the truck, the box was bolted to the seat frame and had two locks. It obviously could be opened with a crowbar, but after that much commotion with the car alarm and crowbars, if you were in a parking lot someone would notice. And if traveling cross country and would happen to get stopped by law enforcement having a 50 states legal rifle is perfect.

So you didn't have a bad idea, I just think there are more practical reasons for such a rifle than watchman service.

Understood.
The current goings on is what set my mind to working.

You don't know me well enough to say I wouldn't drive to Hawaii to save @LoonWulf and his family from the Pineapple Boogaloo.
I can provide food and lodging! your on your own for gas tho.....:D

Pineapple Boogaloo......
Sounds like something they would serve at the bar down at Uncle Billys....when Uncle Billys still had a bar....
and yes i needed saving a few times...tho the unpleasantness would likely have not been felt till the next morning...or more likely midday.

I hear the Washington Post has named the "official Boogaloo uniform" as if such a thing actually existed. It involves a Hawaiian shirt. If it weren't for that, you could discretely CCW and maybe have an extra AR (or other) mag handy with plenty of room as a Hawaiian shirt is seemingly usually worn untucked. Now, unless you live in Hawaii, regardless of your affiliations, you might better not wear Hawaiian shirts as they're now maybe more likely to draw attention... maybe moreso than what rifle you choose.
