New York hunters

Some of them air rifles are just as good as a 22lr.
I know a guy who shot a deer in his garden with a 22 caliber air rifle and dropped it like a hot potato.

These daisy only run about 450 fps, no little power I do think it will kill chipmunk with a head shot. I've Hurd a few story's with guys wanting to scare deer with a pellet rifle and killing it.

I used a empty kitty litter box for a pellet stop, turns out to be about the perfect size. Even had a handle to carry it lol. The pellets should go thru the cardboard but have to see it's pretty dense, I'll fill it with some kind of fabric of some foam I have.

I have a Gamo .177 caliber for my gtandson to shoot in the back yard. I set up a 1 1/4" alder board with a target stapled to it on to the shed with a deck screw and let Mason shoot it. Quite a few pellets made it through the 1 1/4" board and inbeaded in to the sideing of the shed.
It will kill squirrels and other animals that size and a little bigger.
They are supose to travel at 1,000 feet a second with the PBA pellets, 900 feet a second with lead pellets.
Just like with 22lr bullets I bought several types and a two different beands to see which was the most accurate.
I buy the crossman pellets with the hollow point tip.
I tried several different styles of crossman pellets and several styles were accurate but for rodent control I would rather use the hollow point option.

I did swap out the gamo scope with a regular 1" cheap rifle scope.
I will shoot it occasionally to make sure it is still shooting straight, Mason shoots the hell out of this pellet rifle. He likes shooting soda & beer cans full of water. Starlings don't stand a chance in the back yard.
He has three of the cheap Daisy Red Ryder BB guns and we will shoot against each other. You can watch the BBs drop shooting any distance with them.
A few years ago a neighbor was over and I was doing my Budweisers snd hexwas doing his Brandy & Coke on ice and we got on the subject ofvthe squirrels getting in to the attic and pellet guns.
He had the 760 pump up pellet rifle (pump it up ten times) and thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread.
He said he seen me & Mason shooting out little POS pellet gun. So I bet him $10 his pellet gun against ours knocking over a beer can full of water.
He shot first,
Ist shot put a hole in the can,
2nd shot put another hole in the can,
3rd shot knocked the can over.
My Gamo .177 caliber pellet gun split the can open and knocked it over with the first shot, just like shooting it with a 22lr rifle.
2nd shot same thing with a fresh water filled can.
3rd shot was a repeat, split the water filled can and knocked it over.
When I bought it was around $129. I'm sure they are higher now in price and they make several different styles with a higher velocity. I probably should buy a new one. I have had this one for a long time and I'm sure it lost some of it's velocity over the years.

I shot a lot of bb guns when I was little, even since we went shooting every week it was a fun pastime. Plus we lived right in town so air guns were a good choice.

I think I wore out a few 760s had one with sights and one with a scope, dad out one a old weaver for me. I had a crosman 880 but didn't shoot it much I don't remember why tho.

I had a few of the crosman co2 pistols, two pythons were the ones I shot the most.

I was seriously looking before all the covid bs at that combo air rifle.
I have not used any gamo stuff the came from nowhere from what I remember, they did a lot of advertising I don't think I've Hurd any had stuff.

Here's this place loonwulf showed me, he just ordered the xs-25 in spur of are air rifle talk. There from what I've read a good copy made in China of popular air guns.

Air rifles came a long way from thirty years ago. Some of the higher end air rifles are kind of pricey. I'd like to try out the big caliber air guns they use for big game.
They sell them up in Kesselrings Gun Shop. If I ever get caught up with other gun stuff I might pick one up.

Thanks for volunteering to do a thread on it. Should be interesting. I became interested in air rifles a few years ago and picked up a .22 cal. Benjamin Trail break barrel with the Nitro Piston 2 in it. Pretty cool; and air rifles sure aren't what they were a few decades ago. Now I'm considering a PCP if I get another one.

I always liked air guns just never got into them much. I just posted the thread on the gun. I don't have much use for a pcp but looking at the xisico sentry and looks very good for the money under $300 with high reviews.

I never had an air rifle until I got my current one a few years ago. Always liked them, though. Thanks for posting that link so I could look at those. Although if I get a PCP it'll most likely be a Crosman despite the higher cost. I've seen some and they're impressive. They are also semi-local to me, being about 35 miles from here so I can help support the local economy, ( my Benjamin Trail is also made by Crosman). I drive right by their headquarters and plant occasionally going to see a buddy of mine. You can even hunt things like squirrel legally in NY state with an air rifle. I've only taken one with mine just for the challenge of it, but I usually stick to 22LR. Still looking forward to a thread on yours. Perhaps it could change my mind about that Crosman. Who knows?

The threads up, just search cmp m853 came in. I don't think you can go wrong with any air guns these days. Plus it seems most have good aftermarket stuff.

Today was one of the most relaxing days I have had in a long time. One of the older guys on a local forum had a post about going out fishing for land locked silver salmon. He had everything to go but company.
Today he acomadated my grandson and me for for five hours of fishing with a limit of five fish each on his boat, tackle and flashers & bait.
His boat had a 80 horse outboard and a 8 horse trolling motor, he set one down rigger with two ploes at 40 & 45 feet deep, the other down rigger was set at 50 & 55 feet in 275 feet to 325 feet deep of water down towatds the damn on Mossyrock Lake.

Mason's first fish with our host Jim.

Definitely a fun day, and some nice fish.

Today I took Mason and his sister up to the pit to shoot and gather some alder wood to smoke the fish tomorrow. I cut it all about 7" and small diamiter so I can keep the fire going while I add some damp pieces of Apple wood from our appke trees zi trimmed last year to get some good flaver into the fish.

The kids had a good time up in the pit and they both got to shoot some.
Down in the lower pit there was a young couple shooting some semi auto pistols. When they left my grand daughter went down with me and we picked up about twenty-five pounds of brass while my grandson stayed up in the higher pit shooting and watching the truck & guns we took.
We left the house at 4:30pm, got there around 5pm ahot untill 8:45. Cut our smoker wood, stopped and got the grandkids ice cream bars for the ride home and got home just before 9:30.
She just went to the store to buy Kosher Salt so I can brine the salman from yesterday and let them brine until tomorrow. Take them in the morning and let them dry a little before I start smokeing them.
First time trying this so it should be fun

I'm going to sit outside, have a few brewskies enjoy the firepit for a couple of hours then head to bed.
