Personally I love the 9.3- but for Elk I shoot the 8mm Mag because it shoots a touch flatter and if I need to stretch a shot a little I wanted a little flatter shooting cartridge - but as far as horsepower the 9.3 will thump elk all day long.

Before the explosion of wild boar in Sweden nobody wanted a 9.3x62 you could barely give them away. Its a completely different matter now with most European rifle makers doing a 9.3x62. I did think about getting a 9.3 barrel for my Mauser M03 but the .308 does the job OK I must say that i like the 9.3x74R, a long sexy cartridge again popular for driven boar. Sadly there are some double rifles about that are really unpleasant to shoot in the 9.3 x74.

9.3x62 for elk...

The Factory Norma 286 gr. Oryx would be a good choice.

With a MV of 2360 fps, a scoped rifle sighted for 200 yards will give you a MPBR(6") of 235 yards.

... and a drop at 300 of 12.5".

Ballistics at those three ranges are ~ (1915 fps/2320 lb-ft), (1860 fps/2190 lb-ft), and (1710 fps/1860 lb-ft), respectively.

If you know the range and the dope, the bullet should perform nicely.
