Your thoughts on PCCs (pistol-caliber carbines)

If I had some spare bucks floating around (or if I sell a couple of guns I don't shoot much) I would pick up one of these Troy PARs in 300 Blackout.

Not to sound like a meeting of Gunaholics Anonymous but the first thing we have to admit is that beyond some point it has zero to do with need and 100% to do with want.
You can make ding sounds with a .22 or DING sounds with a 9mm. Both are fairly cheap to shoot, so you have to ask yourself if you are truly satisfied by a ding or you gotta have a DING.
I bought an Extar EP9 and am quite satisfied with it. I installed fold down sights and have an easily mounted/unmounted scope and red dot optics. It's fun. That's it.

Its a range toy, not really bought for any purpose but for dinking around on a range and wasting ammo. I didn't buy it for home protection, although if I was in the right room and the fewmets hit the windmill, I'd not run past it to get another choice of weapon. All of my firearms are loaded all of the time with the exception of the muzzleloaders. I have no children and don't have to worry about the furkids as they have no thumbs.

If you want the range toy, buy it and have fun.

Respectfully, that's only half the equation. It's a question of blat-ding versus BAP-DING. ;) Also, .22lr shoots for no score in USPSA, even in PCC.

just for clarity, despite the much lower amount of energy in a 9mm compared to 223, most people think felt recoil is the same or more because of a typically large reciprocating bolt in blow back systems.
In my experience that hasn't been the case. Women I took shooting LOVED my old-model PC-9 and considered it easier to shoot than my .223s. (Took one shooting who is in a wheelchair and wanted to shoot my 12 Gauge to see how far back it sent her rolling. She was a fun person.)

also, a downside of the heavy slow pistol bullets is deeper penetration in walls and such, as compared to some 223 rounds which quickly fragment (mitigated somewhat by a reduced chance of missing)
.223 doesn't "quickly fragment". (Unless you're shooting frangible.) It penetrates walls quite well, as good as common handgun rounds.

Super happy with mine. AR controls and uses Glock mags.

Ultimate fun at the range and a great camp/home defense weapon. Going to the range Saturday with my dad and brother and they both want me to bring it.

Mine after I gave it a custom camo job, upgraded the grip to a Magpul, added a light, RMR, and single-point sling.

And did I mention that it was accurate? Scary accurate...

I thought I wanted to get into Cowboy Action Shooting and bought a Uberti Cattelman and 1895(?) in 45Colt ... but it passed ... does 22LR count?

Of course ! Mine are a Marlin 881 bolt-action, a 10/22, and a Ruger Single Six Convertible (.22 LR & Mag) revolver. Then I also have a Marlin 983 (another bolt), that same revolver with the other cylinder, and a Keltec PMR-30, all in .22 Mag. :D

I have a CZ Scorpion EVO 3 and I love it. It might be one of my favorite guns. It's also my bedside gun because I can shoot 147gr 9mm suppressed. I know I know....most people say your hearing should be the last of your concerns when defending your life, but have you ever shot inside without hearing protection? It's not my ears I'm worried about. It's causing MYSELF disorientation when I need my wits the most!

Nobody I hang out with would say that. We all shoot suppressed

I've had a CX4 .45 since they first came out. I got it with the idea that it would be a non-threatening gun for my wife to get familiar with - She's never once even shot it. ;) Meanwhile I also got a PX4 .45 and a few extra mags, and the combo goes with me to the range every trip. It is a hoot to shoot.

I wish someone would make a 10mm PCC, I think that is where a PCC platform would really make sense. For personal defense a suppressed 10mm PCC with 180gr handloads would be easy handling, yet formidable.

I have been into these things LONG before they became popular. Had one of the early Rugers when they hit. When they stopped people just had to have them and I let that go for a LOT more than I paid. Couple of those old Commando Arms things that looked a little like a Thompson. HORRIBLE triggers but fun. Several M-1 Carbines over the years. When Kel-Tec hit with the S2K grabbed one in .40. It was NICE for a home gun. So damn short and light my last house shotgun became a safe queen. It beat hell out of you though it was so short and light. Bought another in 9mm for Wife. Even that was too much for her. Then I saw a table of what good +P ammo did it this and I looked at it in a whole new light. Gets .357 with 4inch performance with those 124 GDHP. So sold the .40 kept the 9mm. Now I have a couple made by a place in OR, one is 9mm, no longer shot at all. One that will use both 10mm and .45. That one I still like. Sadly the Co is run by a to be charitable, not nice guy so I no longer recommend them. Keep it set up for 10mm for a house gun. Bought one of the new Rugers when they hit and that is DAMN FUN!. Wife even likes this one. Learned to make AR9's so made a pistol and rifle version and those too are a ton of fun.

I put one together. ARStoner upper, PSA common lower and Endomags. Sheesh! fun to shoot and is a range sideshow as everyone thinks it makes a weak report for a 5.56...... surprise!

4 years of 22 unavailable vs 2 years of reloading components unavailable, and 1 year of ammo off the shelf. When 22 started coming back, it came back at 12c/round for another year. Of course we had a grocery that sold ammo that the hoarder didn't know about, so it only effected people who went to walmart and the $75/brick gunshops. I can load 9mm for 12.6c/round. I went the PCC round because i didn't want to shelf a rifle because unavailable ammo.
One major difference, 9mm PCC's kick much harder than you would expect. My 9mm AR kicks noticeably harder than a rifle in the same configuration, same weight in 5.56, so pretty fun.
I went the Colt route wtih a magblock

I have a Hi-Point 9mm, Marlin 9mm Camp Carbine, Marlin 44 mag and Marlin 357 mag. The 357 is my most favorite gun of all. I really get a kick out of shooting the Camp Carbine. For the poster that is worried about parts for them Numerich/E-Gunparts has lots of parts for them. My buds young son killed his first deer with a Camp Carbine. The range was about 45 yards and at the shot the deer ran in a half circle and fell over dead without ever getting out of sight. My bud said blood was spurting out of the entry and exit holes.

Not every situation calls for a full powered bottle necked rifle round. The PCC rifles have a place when full power rounds aren't needed. I think the Marlin 9mm makes a great HD gun. No real muzzle blast and no muzzle flash to blind you. I'm not a prepper but I can see where in an emergency situation being able to kill game without letting everyone for a mile around know you shot a gun could be a good thing.

Love my Ruger PC9. Its my go-to home defense. Also rides with me on long journeys. Hi points are ugly but work. Thinking about picking one up in 10mm when everything dies down.
