How could it have come to this?

I picked up a zip up gun case one time, and it was heavy. I said "hmm, there's a gun in here." My wife said, "see, I told you have too many." It was a Sears branded Winchester 94. I knew I had it though, just forgot about putting it there. That was pre-safe owning days when I had them stashed allover the house.

Yep. The pre-safe days.

I've never forgotten that I owned a gun, but I have forgotten where I put them. They were always someplace safe because that was why I put them there!

I’m cleaning up “my room”, making the wife happy and I come across an extra 625, moon clips, holders and demoon tool that I forgot about and hadn’t shot in 11 years or so to know it would work as a backup when I shot revolver at Nationals.

Being in the cleaning spirit, I thought, I should trade it off for something else I want. Now I have been sitting here looking around for two hours on the Internet trying to entice myself into wanting something, with no luck.

I guess I’d go back to cleaning now...
Honestly I'm there too. I have a bunch of guns I really like and shoot well. there's a few more I wouldn't mind picking up, and I have a few holsters I'd like to have made, but I don't feel any sense of urgency on any of it.

I don't find great stuff but I found this mess today-
20200916_082420.jpg 20200916_082450.jpg 5 , 15 pellet 00 buck shells- rusty (how does brass rust?) In a goofy elastic butt cuff. These were in a box of junk I took out of a beater car I sold a few years ago, if I remember right that cuff was flopping around in the trunk for a few years.

When I went to toss this thing in with my shotgun stuff (not going to shoot the shells but I'll open them for the shot), I found these shells I'd been looking for
20200916_082617.jpg 20200916_082703_HDR.jpg not to shoot, but to disassemble . there was a post a while ago about how crazy and inconsistent this ammo was and I said I had some around and would take it apart and check it out, then I couldn't find it. So I'll attempt to find that post if it's still open and post my findings, probably open 2 , chronograph 2 and sell the 5th one for a million bucks on gunbroker .

So big find for me, 10 shotgun shells. 5 old and nasty and 5 made by some bankrupt fly by night ammo company with questionable quality and outrageous price. Awesome!

That's why I don't clean. When I start cleaning I start finding things I forgot I had. Then I lay awake at night trying to think about what I should do with those things.

No such luck finding anything misplaced, long lost, or just plain forgotten about. Did have one brief moment of excitement once when I was cleaning out an old steamer trunk in the basement and came across a couple of old yellow and black Ruger handgun boxes with their cardboard sleeves. Could it be I had placed a Single Six Bisley and a Mk.II Target here for safe keeping and had forgot that I hid them here? Alas it was not to be...they were just empty boxes that I had not taken with me when I sold the guns. Oh well it was a brief thrill and then the moment passed and it was back to reality cleaning out the trunk!

Had a friend that worked at the LGS. He bought and sold a lot of guns for himself. He would buy a new one, work up loads so it was super accurate, then sell it.

So, he’s looking for a 700 in .220 Swift. Finds one at another out of state dealer and gets it shipped. Takes it home and there’s already one there he bought but forgot about. Never did remember where he got it

Thats a cool find! Most of the forgotten things that I have rediscovered owning are things like brass or lead. Not really a bad thing but not as nice as finding a 625!

I picked up a SMLE No.4 Mk. 2 and tried to compare it to one that I had bought some years before - and couldn't find it. I looked around for a while, then gave up.

A few months later I reached into the safe that holds my SMLEs and there it was, right where I had been looking before.

Maybe it had snuck out to have a little illicit fun?
