Percussion caps source

Thanks for the info Arcticap, even with the higher hazmat fee I might snatch some up. I'm newer to this side of bp shooting, is the scarcity of caps due to Covid shutdowns? Hoarding perhaps?

Remington has been going through upheaval with their bankruptcy, and now they've sold off their ammunition manufacturing subsidiary.
Since they couldn't obtain credit, perhaps they couldn't get the raw materials to manufacture as many caps as they normally do, and over time that created a backlog of orders.

That leaves the other makers, mostly CCI to pick up the slack.
Some distributors may have larger stockpiles of caps than others.
Some big box chains may have had contracts for large orders that get priority, and many of them won't ship caps any more.

Covid may also be a reason since who knows what the manufacturer's outputs are now compared to their pre-covid outputs.
Covid certainly had an impact on the Italian gunmakers.
We can only guess why some stores and parts of the country have more Remington #10 caps than others.
If all of the large internet vendors were able to get them, they would have some since they're losing potential profit by not having any in stock.
They could put limits on the amount of caps that they're willing to sell per order.

As far as the Hazmat fees, some large vendors may get discounted shipping prices from UPS or Fedex.
Perhaps obtaining discounts depends on their volume of sales and/or having large automated processing terminals located nearby.

Some chains have caps while other chains have none, which indicates that there isn't enough to go around.
Some distributors can only deliver stock to those on a waiting list or to those who backordered before taking any new orders.
Another indication that there's not enough available to meet demand in every part of the country.

That is a great price mr.woodnbow!
They have 11’s too but for some reason they wanted 6.00 per hundred. They don’t have much in the way of Black Powder stuff but I told them I would be back regularly if they will keep Remington caps in stock. Manager was a little surprised when I told him I go through at least 200 per month and more if I have time. Winter’s coming and I will have time for shooting!

Another thought about the lack of Remington caps on the shelves.
If Remington was able to meet all demand and stock all of the shelves, then when it came time for Vista Outdoor Products to bid to buy their ammo. subsidiary, it could have been worth less money.
Who wants to pay multi-millions of $$$$ when everyone in the USA has stockpiled their products and won't be buying any for years to come.
At least if the buyer sees that demand is running much higher than production, then they can expect to start making immediate profits from their investment.
So maybe Remington has intentionally been holding back on their cap production all along with some of their other products.
Now that the sale has been approved, we'll see if the new owners can meet the production backlog over time, or if there's other issues.

Thanks for the nod blackpowderwarrior. remington better keep makin caps as its the only cap i will pay for. Hopefully prices stay the same or even drop a little but if they stop making remingtons then i will change to only using homemade caps. I actually mainly use homemade caps but i still like to have a stock pile of remington 11s.

I like remingtons myself in #10 when i can find em i try and order a pretty good bit. But ive used cci and rws. Both get the job done but neither have that remington fit to them! Making percussion caps seems like a painstaking processes but definately a good and rare skill to have.

Thanks Mr.woodnbow . I love Remmi's as much as the next man but ive tried out my stock of cci 11 , cci 11magnum and RWS 1075+ and they all went off fine no misfires.

I can make just about any cap work and go bang eeverytime...thats not an issue i have with non remington caps. The issue is the quality of the caps....i need a cap that stays whole and doesnt "shrapnel" when it goes off ...remington caps "petal" open when they go off and cci and other caps dont..caps that shrapnel and fragment are the main cause for cap jams. I also need a cap that can take the rigours of being shaken around in the cap tin and/or capper....which ive lost primer mix from CCI caps and other brands but not remingtons. Also remington 10s and 11s fit all types of nipples both stock and aftermarket while cci 10s dont fit any except the small stainless RMC oxyoke nipples and cci 11s are usually too big and only fit aftermarket nipples. So i go for remington due to quality.

I received a reply from Vista. They suggested I contact Remington directly to let them know what the cap market looks like for us. Now I’m suggesting each of us contact Remington and let them know what we use and how often etc...

Mr.woodnbow has a great idea. We should let them know what we we use and how caps are important...but hopefully it doesnt backfire by them raising the price :p

The only place I can find Remington caps in at BPS and they want 9.00 a hundred they can keep them. I was resizing CCI #11 caps and they were working great. With newer #11 CCI caps I have not been having the little disks falling out of the caps. Now I have Uncle Mikes nipples thanks to the OutLawKid no sizing necessary the #11 CCI caps fit them perfectly and they are going bang every time and I am not getting any cap jams. This shooter gives CCI caps the nod.

Remmy #10s are the only caps I've used that fit super snug, go off every time first strike, and stay together after detonating. The CCIs I've used frag into a number of pieces and usually end up in the guts of my Colts. I've used RWS 1075s before with good luck as well but obtaining them has been spotty at best.

Captain kirk...if ya need a cap sheild and cap post installed let me know...that way you wont have to worry about cap jams or cap pieces getting into the guts of your colts. :-D

The regular strength RWS 1075 caps are sold throughout Europe in a black tin with a tan label in packs of 250 caps.
Yet in the US, many vendors misrepresent the 1075 Plus caps that come in a red tin with a blue label as simply being 1075's.
Folks shouldn't expect to be able to even find regular 1075 caps available in the US because the only ones that seem to be imported lately are the 1075 Plus.
IMO the offending vendors know the difference between a magnum cap and a non-magnum cap, they just want to sell them as if it doesn't matter to people.
They don't misrepresent the CCI or Winchester magnum caps as being regular strength caps.
Perhaps only the 1075 Plus caps are being imported because US shooters use more sub. powders than the Europeans.
