My latest. Tried some 40sw in it the other day and found I'm more accurate on my 25yd gongs with 40 vs 10.

Gunny, BTW- if you get bored..... tell the P.D. that you are available as "Technical Advisor" at $150/hour. :)
Maybe you have trained a new tech or the dept. has another expert that they can shift in from afar.
Whatever they do, they will never get anyone as well versed on firearms as you are. Thanks again!
I trained two officers to take my place. I left them in good hands.

Gunny I know how you felt with going through the Academy at age 36. I went through the Academy at age 40 and was the oldest one there. All the other recruits were an average age of between 20 and 25. PT was the hardest. My life before that was as an Electrician and I felt I to needed a change. Loved the job right up to retirement. Today I see from the news that the job is not what it used to be. Good luck on retirement!
I was the second to oldest in my academy class of 20. I took forth overall. Six of my class mates left the department for one reason or another and two of us have retired so far.
As one who had a brief stint as a LEO, joining a local force in 1964/67/ after my military service, it’s a job that can demand much from both family and cop. I left as I found I simply could not adapt to the hours. Duty roster was such that rookies covered all the night hours and were rotated as needed between night shifts. No holidays off in those three years.
Hats off to those who serve both military and quasi-military.
I worked New Years, Thanksgiving and Christmas my first four years on the department. It’s a job that demands a lot from a person, but it also gives back in so many other ways. I know many people that gave it a try and found that the job just wasn’t for them.

I only have one handgun chambered in 40 S&W, a Glock 22 Gen3. It’s the first Glock issued to me on the department back in 2002. I was able to buy it when my department went from the Gen3 to the Gen4.

Congratulations Gunny, and thank you for your long service! Understand, now we expect you'll be spending a lot more time here on THR....
My daughter has gotten into the habit of calling me to do all kinds of things. She always starts off with, What are you doing daddy? My answer, most often, is nothing. Then she ask me to do whatever.
I sent her this text the other day.
When you ask me what I am doing today, and I say "nothing," it does not mean I am free. It means I am doing nothing.
I haven’t heard from her for a few days.
I think I’ll go shooting in the morning.:)

Congratulations, Gunny!

I hope to keep serving the public for 2.5 more years before retiring.

Keep us updated on your hobbies so I'll know what I have to look forward to. :)

Gunny, I have been retired for 11 months. I get up every day with nothing to do by the end of the day I have only got half of it done  you will stay busy!!!

I've been retired since February of 2005 (medical) and I can tell you, doing nothing is hard work. And hobbies to keep you busy get expensive too. I finally got rid of one expensive hobby (motorcycles) but still have my Jeeps that I tinker with. And of course my reloading and shooting. Lately I have been into building 80% pistols. Let me tell you, P80D is as bad as BRD.

Understood completly! I started a marine electronics buisness many years ago and what was a fun hobby spiraled out of control into a 24/7 life drain. HD to give it up. Hope yours can stay fun.

I retired a couple of years ago from the Insurance Business with a medical disability. I like being off and find plenty to do. Its nice not to be rushed or feel the pressure to get a bunch of stuff done. All I get is SS and disability so its not much. But everything I own is paid for so I get by OK. And I still buy a few guns. I will pick up my NIB Glock 17 in an hour or so. It will be my first Glock too. I will start a thread here with pictures for those who don't know what a Glock looks like Lol.

It sounds like you will move right in to retirement and have the health to enjoy it. My dad stopped working because of his health. He destroyed himself with those damn cigarettes and was pretty much home bound and couldn't comfortably leave the house. Retirement was not good for him. So if you have your health retirement is good. I should have done this when I was about 23 instead of working so hard for 45+ years.:uhoh::thumbup::rofl:

Congratulations on your retirement! Best wishes for a long and fun ride into your next life season!

I’ve always liked the Gen 3/4 Glocks best personally...I just dig that tennifer finish...its dang near bulletproof! So much better than the Gen 5 finish IMO!

Stay safe and keep an eye out for those loup-garou’s
