Added the Pachmayr grips and love them! Comes with two excellent stainless magazines and has a fantastic trigger...lighter and nicer than my Colt National Match.

Checking out all the stainless 1911s in the Cabela's store, (about 4-5), this one had the best trigger, by far. Some were very heavy.

It shoots smoothly and accurately!

The smoothest shooting 1911 I have shot was a WWII vintage Remington Rand, gave me the 1911 bug and I had to have one. Wound up with a couple but that is pretty common with 1911's.

I am normally a Ruger guy so I was also considering a SR1911 but was tending to the Remington when I ran across a really good deal for a like new SR1911. If the Ruger hadn't fallen in my lap I would also have one. The one I handled felt good in my hand.

Want to go a few rounds on the dueling tree with me at say $100/ game going to Paralyzed Veterans of America.
I shoot a Les Baer, but I had a quad bypass less than 3 months ago. Catch me while I'm weak. I don't mind (gave $6000+ last year.)

I'll even loan you a stack of mags. Got ammo too.

I've heard good things about the Remington 1911s, and there is even historical precedent, Remington (the gun company) made them for WWI, Remington Rand (the typewriter people) made them in WWII. But you guys knew that. Saw a really sharp WWI commorative in a presentation case...didn't check a price.
No offense; does Big Green make these themselves? Great looking examples.
What does the future hold for these guns?

Probably the most accurate handgun I ever fired was the 1911. Now if they did away with the external safety I'd be happy! I saw one with a double stack magazine and I have to admit it made me feel a happy sort of way.

Bought the R1S Enhanced Commander a few years ago on a rebate offer. It does indeed have a slick trigger, but I have to admit that dry-fire is all I've done with it. Very handsome gun, though, and I did intend to make it a member of the "carry club." Once the ranges clear out some of all the noobs waving their new Glocks around, I'll give it a go with some of what .45ACP ammo I have.

I'm thinking of getting another stainless one for the vehicle.

When I got interested in 1911s I would read up on “upgrades”. I tried to decide what to do to my R1S. The trigger is absolutely perfect in my untrained opinion - no upgrade needed there. Barrel upgrade- not a chance. The 1st three rounds ever fired from it at 50 yards (150 feet) DSC02244-zps3ed3f0b3.jpg No problem there. There is nothing I would change. Exceptional firearm right out of the box. I paid $600 for it with a rebate of sorts of 200 rounds of Remington UMC ammo. If you can find the ammo these days its a buck per round making the gun price $400

Very nice . Bears a striking resemblance to my Para GI expert stainless.

I decided after 40 years of gun ownership, I should probably get a 1911.

Was browsing Gunbroker last February and saw a shop in PA had 8 Remington R1 Limited models in .40 S&W that they were selling for $499 each. Plus Remington had a $50 rebate. Ordered one and was astonished at the quality. Should have bought another one. Trigger was good but a little heavy at about 4.5 lbs, but it is accurate, smooth, and has not hiccuped once. It's my favorite range toy.

Nice pistol, Picher. I have never tried the Pachmayer grips on a 1911 but am a big fan of the Hogue rubber grips. They are a perfect fit for my hands.

Thank you, DDDWho for letting us know how many feet are in fifty yards. :scrutiny: Just kiddin'. The wind is blowing and I'm bored. That is excellent shooting at 150 feet with a new gun. Now go repeat it a few times. Have fun while doing so.

. I’ve almost quit shooting to try to hang on to as much ammo as I can. Anything is hard to find and expensive if you do. These are scary times and bound to get worse with the gun grabbers in power. My wife thought I was insane when I spent money on guns and ammo she didn’t think I needed. Now she thinks I’m just 1/2 nuts.

I know what you mean about the 1/2 nuts thing. At least mine doesn't mind my mental condition.

I have a stainless one. great gun. got it when they did the rebate. it was dirt cheap before the rebate, after even better.

I thought they stopped making them from the bankruptcy? are they back in production?

I'm assembling a 10MM long slide, and being short of cash I found an R1 slide for 10MM on ebay cheap. For a long time I vacillated back and forth as to whether or not to surface grind the "Remington R1" off the sides of the slide but now I'm thinking it's the best camo ever for the new child, when people see "Remington" they'll lose interest fast.
The best logo on the sides of a 1911 is nothing at all.

Isn't it sad that it's rather noteworthy that it comes with 2 magazines? Should be the minimum normal to me.

Nice to hear that a simple American gun is returning simple pleasures to its owner.

Todd.
What really got me was the apparently high quality of the magazines. They're solid, heavy-duty, and beautifully made, putting all my others to shame!
