32 Caliber Revolvers

I picked up this .32-20 M&P for virtually nothing a few years ago (it was in rough shape)-

Got lucky and found 250 rounds of ammo for it, most likely a lifetime supply, though I paid 3X what the GUN is worth for it, lol.

Recoils about like a moderately loaded .38spl. Its neat, but doesn't really offer any advantages in a K-frame. The rest of the .32 cartridges just dont appeal to me much, I guess.
I have a couple of .32-20's and really like them for any kind of vermin control. More accurate than I am with factory or handloads. Factory ammo is really mild - almost not worth buying except for brass. Hand loaded to full potential but still safe and they are magnum velocity handguns. .32-20 was originally a rifle round and was considered adequate for Whitetails until recently. In my lifetime, anyway.

Seems like the 32 is hanging in there ... I always had a soft spot for 32 Caliber revolvers.. I owned a few over the years .. but seemed like they were stuffed in the safe eventually.. and traded off ... I guess I never really understood the 32 ...
(and when I say 32 .. its the 32 Long , 32 H&R and now 327 ... )
Seemed like I would migrate back to the 357/38
Or heaven forbid bottom feeders ...
I dabbled in the 32 Long & 32 H&R back in the late late 80’s & early 90’s .. I owned several H&R revolvers in the 32 S&W long and 32 H&R ..
Ammo for the 32 Long was plentiful and inexpensive.. I remember going to the LGS and buying LRN 32 Long ammo for $7.00 -$9.00 a box of 50 ... at a local community store I bought a box of loose 300 rds 32 long for $15.00 .. . the
32 H&R ammo was a bit harder to find .. no Google then ,
Being I hand loaded 38 spl .. my buddy would cast me bullets with the unlimited wheel weight lead I supplied for him .. I remember one Saturday I collected a 5 gallon bucket with lead wheel weights ... had to roll it in his garage on a dolly ....

Just before the Covid.. I was in search of a
32 H&R .. actually had a titanium cylindered S&W 6 shot J frame lined up for 6 bills .. as new in box
But the world went crazy . Seller backed out and
I turned my sights on Charter and their revamped 6 shot Undercoverette ... but production was slow .. and no UL in sight unless they were pink framed...
And I then turned my search for a LCR327
Im a LCR fanboy... Im pre-sold on the LCR concept
I lucked up .. found one NIB at a LGS at a normal price ... and purchased it ...
Due to serious spinal cord injury I have been unable to seriously work with the LCR327
I had surgery in late December and still recovering,, arms, hands and fingers still experiencing numbness and lack of coordination..but improving.. I have had limited range time .. enough to compare recoil.. between 32 Long , 32 H&R & 327 ... vs 38 and 357 in LCRs ... have not been able to do any real target shooting due to neck braces and balance problems and such ..
but in the LCR327 , 32 Long recoil is extremely low .. fun to shoot, 32 H&R recoil similar to 38spl Wadcutters.... and 327 similar to 38spl +P in the LCR357 ... but it has a crack !!!
I do hope the 32 family sticks around,...
when the Gun madness ends .. I hoping to pick up a Charter Undercoverette UL in 32 H&R

Sorry to hear about your injury. Prayers inbound.

I find .32s to be very useful. Not many critters like getting hit in the right spot by one. Back in the day before every criminal was a Superman and it took a .454 Casull to get through t-shirt material, .32S&W Long and .32H&R Magnum were considered good home defense loads. Heck, back then you could stop a bad guy with a lowly .38Spl and five rounds were enough to run off or put down at least three bad guys! ;)

Well, if it really bothers you having it hang around I guess I can take it off your hands - but you'll have to take something I find equally offensive in exchange! The rule in our house is, "One comes in, one goes out." That goes for guns, cats, cars, and most recently kitchen gadgets. ;)

This past year has been the year of the .32 for me. I started off with a 3" SP101 in .327, and added a 4" 31-1 and 2" 30-1. I have been loading fof both .327 and .32 Long, and fortunately stocked up on bullets, brass, and components before the lunacy of the present. From powder puff target loads to real screamers in the 327, what's not to like?

At the same time, since i am getting older, it appears to me that .32 will make a dandy self-defense gun if I get feeble and recoil sensitive. I can imagine one of those revolvers riding next to me in my wheelchair if I get to that point.

I have been waiting on Charter to make a 32 H&R Undercoverette with a aluminum frame that is not Pink or Lavender.. I actually have spoke to them about it .... a year ago .. still haven’t seen one ..
Now that they are six shooters.. Im interested

This seven round GP100 in 327 Federal Magnum is one of my favorite 32's. Like so many others, I shunned the 32's and then became almost intoxicated by them.

Another Taurus .32 Mag

What model is that Taurus, Walkalong? I'm what you might call mildly interested in getting into a 32 Long/H&R revolver, but pocket guns aren't my thing. Full size K frames and single actions more tickle my fancy, so color me intrigued in your fine looking sidearm. Right now, there happens to be a Spanish K frame clone in 32 Long on GB with a 4 or 5 inch barrel that needs tinkering. Price is right but ammo/components aren't really available right now. I guess I'm on the fence about it. Anyhow, great thread! This may be the one that pushes me into the 32!

My humble gathering of .32 wheel guns...

Top to bottom ... a unique, 5” (1934) .32-20 Colt Army Special (s/n 588,xxx).

Colt officially ceased .32-20 & all Army Special production in 1927, transistioning to the Official Police Model (beginning with S/N 539,000). In 1934, with throngs of .32-20 AS barrels & AS grip panels remaining in inventory, Colt made the decision to mate those up to OP frames in a run of (approx.) 2,000 hybrid revolvers. Long regarded as mere parts clean-up guns, only in the past decade or so have they gained steam as sought after collectibles. A few years back, another hybrid owner, whose .32-20’s s/n was a few digits newer than mine, sent off for an Archival Document & Colt returned said paperwork listing his revolver as a “1934 Army Special”.

.32-20 S&W 3rd-change (1914) Model of 1905. If I didn’t know any better, I’d swear that this 3rd-change was benchmade ... in Germany, by a guy named Gustav. It’s a wonderful revolver!

Lastly, my grandfather’s .32 S&W H&R Young American which accompanied him & his gray-wolf-sized German Shepherd on many a late-evening walk down their Chicago alley.

My first interest in 32's was with a 32 caliber muzzleloader rifle. A few years ago I lucked into a new in box Ruger Single-Six in 32 H&R magnum, which has become one of my favorite target revolvers, especially with 32 long wadcutters. Like 38 specials, they are easy and cheap to reload and can keep me shooting when even 22lr are hard to find. Inexpensive, accurate and comfortable to shoot makes a great combination.
