So tired of hearing about primers!

can we talk about, say, reloading in a camp sight, best steak for reloaders, best beer after reloading, best reloader in the world.... something other than the shortage of primers.

Sorry to post on your thread :(
Are you really ‘sorry’? Somehow I’m just not buying it.

Folks that are sitting in a boatload of supplies and saying “stop whining already” aren’t helping. I’m on the hunt for some stuff, other stuff I’m flush, but I still have empathy for folks wondering why this economy sector is in such a clusterflock.

not a boat load, last count, 12k that I normally keep on hand.

It has been suggested a time or two that Sig may be building a primer factory. Perhaps as part of their Arkansas ammunition works?

If so......they would join Remington..........plus now I see Fiocchi has or is building another ammunition plant near Little Rock, AR to go with the one they already have up the road at Ozark, MO. That got me to wondering and yes, you can find evidence of primers sold in boxes with Fiocchi on the outside. Just a change in name on the package (from CCI, Federal, etc) or did they really make em?

But with all these new ammunition plants going up, and with primers being a critical component, to me it starts making sense for Sig, Fiocchi and perhaps some others to pool their resources and start making primers to keep their ammunition plants running and viable. I could also see a situation where Sig might even get a little grant money / boost from the Military to expand into making primers if any part of their ammunition plant is dedicated to ammo for their military sidearms contract.

When you see the size and expense of an ammunition plant, expanding into also making primers just doesn't look that hard or expensive.

Remington is back in the ammo/primer/shot/bullet business
I lived next to the old Remington plant in Bridgeport connecticut. until they shut down, and the neighborhood went to hell in a handbag. My parents moved us to the south to follow the textile mills. I’ll be forever grateful to them. Can’t imagine growing up in such poverty

I never realized until recently that nearly all gun powder is made by a variety of companies in support of military operations. And almost all of that is made outside of US. and if I understand correctly, US environmental laws makes would make it prohibitive......either economically, environmentally, or both.....to make in US.

Primers, on the other hand...........I gotta believe there is room for one more of those.......joint venture if nothing else.

I consider that very bad news. There are only two reasons for expanding domestic munitions production: war production or civil law enforcement production. That means a war state or a police state. Or both since one typically leads to the other.

Worse, it means the foreign manufacturers have been given a head's-up that the US will be signing on for ALL of the UN Treaty on Small Arms (ATT) in the near future, limiting what they can export.

I'm sorry to keep sounding like a broken record but, with the exception of certain specialty hunting loads, the civilian munitions markets are just too small to be profitable. Militaries, government bureaucracies, foreign aid and domestic policing agencies purchase many billions of $$'s worth of ammo, annually, on contract and for multi-year supplies. Civilian sales aren't even close.

...bacon is next!
Thanks for the tip!

I just took out a second mortgage on my house, went to all the stores in a 100 mile radius and bought every slice of bacon they had.

I also went on line and purchased every can of CMMG "Tactical Bacon" I could find, you never know, this may be a long shortage.

I urge every red blooded American to go out and buy as much bacon as they possibly can!

I blame this INEXCUSABLE shortage on poor planning by the pork industry and hoarding by eBay resellers.

I am now facing a logistics problem. My storage space is all used up with toilet paper and paper towels. That and isopropanol alcohol. In order to store bacon I need another freezer and the space to put it. Maybe I can buy an adjacent property?

It's a shorter drive for me to go hunting pigs than to go to a big-box super-grocery store.:D

Just do like the rednecks do and out it on your porch

Yup. And which porch you put it on says a lot about you:
Front porch - too rural to worry about poachers or thieves; but, neighbors and friends are welcome to share.
Back porch - too stingy to share big-city type living in the country cause no one could stand your silly self in the city no more.

I seen some folks who put it in their garage and even put a lock on it. Now that's just downright unneighborly!

My parents and grand parents told me how hard it was to get ammunition during World War II and even when they could find ammunition how poor the quality was. I have always tried to keep what I need but this time the primer shortage slipped up on me. Every month that goes buy without supplies the reloaders will get madder and madder. Not much respect for CCI, Federal and Winchester. I really miss Remington primers and maybe Remington getting back into production will help.
