I haven't fired a rifle other than plinking with an AR or various 22s in a looong time. Just shooting alot of revolvers with ammo prices so high cause I reload all my revolver ammo.
I have a pretty good stock of 45 ACP too. Good thing :).

Some observations on this new pistol.
The first thing I did when I got it home was field strip it and clean it up.
The fit and finish was better than I expected for a $500 1911.
When I got it out back to my range to shoot it the first round of the first mag didn't chamber. I thought "oh crap I should have bought a Colt".
Racked the slide again and she went into battery no problem. Didn't have any more issues at all.
She Must have been messing with my head LOL.
As my target shows it shoots pretty good. Again that was both strong and weak side one handed so I'm pretty happy with it.
Out of the box the trigger was pretty stiff but it is noticeably better after just 50 rounds. Can't wait to see what a couple hundred more does for it.
Oh I kind of like the GI sights.

Yeah these grip panels gotta go. Probably get some darker wood with checkering. Would love some faux ivory with Psalms 23 engraved in them.

I don't know about finding the Psalms engraving but I like the idea about getting the faux ivory grips!

Oh and Bon Voyage to your RIA maiden voyage!

I keep eyeing the RIA 1911s. For years, I've read that they're a pretty good bargain in guns, and the ones I've handled felt good. Maybe not "Les Baer good," but certainly good for their price range. There just always seems to be something ahead of an RIA on The List.

Congratulations!

Side bar.... I’ve had good luck with oem Springfield mags (metalform, iirc)

Anyone else use metalform or have a recommendation on other brands? Just curious

Looks like it works! My RIA GI 1911 is one of my favorite range guns. I put dirty olive VZ grips on mine and painted the front sight orange.

Pic? I’ve heard lots of positive info about the VZ grips. I’ll bet Dirty Olive looks sharp too!

Spats McGee

I have written a couple of times about the RIA 1911 that a friend of mine had and that I worked on for him. There wasn't anything wrong with it; he just wanted some things changed on it, like a beavertail grip safety, round hammer, and extended slide release and thumb safety. The gun was nickel plated and it was very evenly applied throughout the gun. Likewise there were no tool marks or signs of parts being unfinished or poorly fitted. My friend polished the stainless steel components so they would match the bright nickel and all the parts fit perfectly with little need for filing or sanding.
Overall I was very impressed by the workmanship that went into this gun and would consider getting one if I was in the market for an above entry level 1911.

Thats a nice pistol and a nice group:thumbup: When things get back to some semblance of normality, I'd like to get an RIA nickel plated 1911 in 38 super. Just something of the old school cool there

The Philippine 1911s were exactly what I wanted out of the pistol - good shooters to plink around and see if I liked the design, and wouldn't break the bank if they didn't.

I've shot a couple higher-end 1911s, and they are obviously nicer than my Metro Arms pistol, but I didn't feel the "gotta have it" pull afterwards. Happy with the one I've got, and it only cost me $450 in more normal times.
