Yep, the question was that I was there picking up a different gun and didn't have the "gun money" set aside and wanted to discuss it with the wife.

She had given the green light, so I should have gone with the saying "better to beg forgiveness than ask permission" in this case.

After this instance I've more or less got the permanent green light, even if I need to sell some stuff later, if I find the right deal.

It's ok, years later I'm pretty happy with my Grendel Hunter 6.5 Grendel AR in the same role, I still have my M1A in the .308 land (probably my favorite rifle).

Every now and then a big box store will screw up. I was in the Cabela's at Sidney, Neb. a few years back and I spotted an 1891 Argentine Mauser, untouched, in original military Configuration. Numbers matching. Only flaw was the ground off crest, which seems to be almost universal on the 91s. They wanted $400 for it. Upon closer examination, the gun was a 98-99% gun. I snatched it up in a New York second.

For the record I've come across several great deals at a Cabellas store near me, (now a Camping Word). A perfect Browning BL22 for less than $200, a HK P7 with extra mags for $400 (before the Saxony trade-in event) and a Beretta 84 with night sights, ISP grips and holster for $300. Those three come to mind... maybe a few more too. Never hurts to look at what's available.

Great snag. The no dash and pre-lock L frames have gotten to be strong sellers lately. A similar one Item 896186202 on GB, but not pristine at all, brought $1700 with 5 bidders chasing it above $1200. Compared to Pythons, they are deserving of those prices and higher, IMO. Seriously under-valued for many years.

I really think that they do I picked up a Ruger BH 41 magnum looked like new in box 300 ,bux 4 years ago last year i saw a SP101 like new in box going for 325,bux but the last year not so much

I don't know for sure, just speculating, but I have to believe they have a department of bean counters who run the numbers and figure the prices based on the cost of stocking an item. In this case, the average annual sales of those two used Smiths are probably below a certain threshold, indicating lack of interest? maybe? - so they price them low to move them rather than have to pay taxes on them, take up valuable shelf space, take up employee time and inventory hours tracking, showing, discussing... I'd imagine there's some complex algorithm in their corporate software to calculate asking and selling prices. It's how mindless corporate structures do things. "Don't think! Just follow the algorithms. The computer is programmed to tell you what to do."

Nice, very nice. Yes, I discovered you can often get them to come down in the Gun Library so now if I am interested in a gun I just ask for a "best and final" price. I also discovered they will give veterans another 5% off when paying. Buying a gun once and the kid on the register asked if I wanted a veteran discount. I asked how he knew I was a vet and I had forgotten it's right there on my drivers license. They call it Legendary Salute program. Anyway it never hurts to ask if there is any room on a gun price. I have used it in the Gun Library and no clue as to new guns.

The gun library would reduce prices on firearms based on how long they were un-sold. You could get excellent deals if you knew what you were looking for and what it was worth. Like a 1949 5 screw k22 in excellent condition for $375, or the 1917 Commercial DA .45 I paid $585.00 for.

I picked up 2 "used" Beretta shotguns from the Cabela's here in Verdi before the BPS buy. Good both at decent prices.
