Something different: FG42-ish 9mm PCC

Yeah, that would be ugly. I was more thinking of how the FG-42 cocked up, and how that could "scale down" from 8mauser to 30carbine, rather than the specifics of this particular PCC

Man there is always a stupid part of me that wonders if you could come up with a bcg that would let you plug ar bolts and barrels into something styled like the fg 42. I think it'd be a blast to go prone and spend a hundred dollars worth of .223 through something like this.

Yes, you can.

You've just tickled a memory. I recall Ian mentioning some experiments the Germans did with the 7.92 Kurz that didn't go anywhere:

I also seem to recall the expat German designers from Mauser had something like this in mind when they were working for the French shortly after the war. More along the lines of an Stg45/CETME in 30 Carbine than the FG-42, but interesting all the same.

When I see these homage guns, I always wonder how good a rifle from a company I never heard of, at a high price, will work?

Troup Systems/Rhineland Arms has been making 45ACP conversion kits for Mauser and Enfield rifles for a long time. They do have a good reputation for that. Their Leopard rifle stocks are pretty good too. I have one on a Savage Mk II. So if their 9mm FG42 is like any of their other products, it should be good to go.

I've been following Rhineland awhile and I have the same feeling. My gut tells me they would be more likely to delay release rather than sell something that doesn't work properly from the get-go -- that's why I recommend patience.

I still remember when Ruger announced the XGI ...

Question 1 did you basically Mill the bottom of the bcg into the side of the bcg?

Question 2 how is the gas handled?
Some sort of piston or op rod where the gas key used to be?
I made a new bolt carrier.

Aside from the bolt and magazine, pretty much everything internal is new manufacture. You can modify an AR barrel, that one is made from a Green Mountain chrome lined barreled extention blank.

It is operated by a long stroke piston below the barrel, similar to the original.

Thank you for answering me.

I actually kind of like this the more I look at it. It's actually not too monstrously expensive even at MSRP. I don't NEED a PCC but am constantly having to remind myself of that fact. Be neat of a local store could get one in to tempt me.
