S&W 24-3 purchased last month.


For more than 20 years this holster from El Paso Saddlery has carried a S&W 629 Mountain Gun but as I’ve gotten older my enthusiasm for shooting full power 44 Magnum loads out of such a light weight firearm has waned. I decided that since I was basically shooting 44 special equivalent loads anyway, I might as well use the real thing.

While I have been told these chambers MAY be deep enough for the 44 S&W Special cartridge, I am content to use them with the modern 44 Colt cartridge. A lot of shooting fun!

According to the Standard Catalog Of Smith & Wesson there were only 2,625 of the 24-3 4" model manufactured so there aren't a lot of them around. This one came with the original box and tools and is in such mint condition it could have sold as NIB. However, it's not going to stay that way. While I take very good care of my firearms I don't own any Safe Queens.

I had the 624 out today in the desert. My son and I had a great time picking off rocks and other random targets. My favorite comment of the day was, "The trigger on the 624 is much better than the Glock 21." I think he's getting the picture!
