I had noticed smaller packages being put on the shelves for ammo: 250 boxes of 22LR, 10 round boxes of even trap shells, etc. Saw a new example today at my local range. They had a sign next to cases of federal 20 gauge trap shells advertising $89.99 a case. I didn't need any, but it struck me as not a terrible deal in today's market. Then I looked closer and saw that Federal is now apparently shipping "case" boxes of shotshells that only have 8 boxes/200 rounds in them rather than 10 boxes/250 rounds in them.

It's the new trend for everything. Ammo, orange juice, everything. Honestly starting to get p*##%d.

Hidden inflation. Same price, less product. Was in a supermarket, saw the Dannon yogurt cups are down to a little over 5 ounces.

Yep.

What frustrates me is how naive people are that they don’t even see it. “There’s no inflation. I still pay $2 for a block of cheese” all the while failing to realize that the block of cheese is 12oz whereas it was 16oz a year ago.

To be fair, it’s not like anyone could have predicted that printing a bunch of extra money and shoveling it into the economy over a short period of time combined with unprecedented government spending over the past year would cause inflation or some sort of economic disturbance.

American Eagle .22 LR started appearing in 400-round bricks several years ago. That was the first sign I saw of shrinkflation affecting ammo.

Now it’s 250 round boxes of Aguila that I’m seeing (and buying because its about all the bulk ammo I’ve seen in years.) I hope this is as far as it goes…but I doubt it.

Stay safe.

...become more rational. We have cut waaay back on our offshore fishing due to fuel price gouging. Getting pretty tired of...
WELL! Friend fisherman EXCUSE ME, fisherperson (so so so sowwy if I offfffended ANYone LoL:p), you need to get that sail back out, and, don't forget the solar panels for your EPA approved electrik motor :p:p

This began years ago with the Red Bags of raisin bread.

They shortened the loaf and it remained short.
OK, I HATE seeing this showing up in my guns FOOD too. But lest we 4get; recent changes last 4-8-12 yrs; canned food went from 1lb cans to 15oz; chips went from 22oz to 16, now the average is 10-12oz, coffee by the can went down to 30 oz for the ''big'' can, AND a hooooge price increase...no cream cheese for my morning english muffins...etc...

Um, why is this magically:scrutiny: showing up in 4 year incrementso_O ?

EVERYTHING IS UP ...EXCEPT FOR WAGES:fire:.

...anyone remember the newest magic # for rifle rounds? I remember distinctly last year or so, ads for a so-called ''800 round case'' of 223...
Who do you shotgun persons think you are? Special or sumthin? hehe

Sorry. Rant-off. Thank you , I feel better suppose:).

I wonder if we will get back to the days where you could go into a gun shop/hardware store/general store and buy ammo by the round.

You mean like the old codger Hole in the Wall gang member who tries to beg a bullet off of Kid Shelleen in 'Cat Ballou'?

A few years ago, some company -- I forget which -- was selling 20-round boxes of shotshells. People who didn't notice when they bought them sure noticed when they got to the last station of trap round. :neener:
Yeah, I got snagged on that. One of the larger stores, might have been Gander Mt. or Cabelas, had a big sales flyer with a great price for a case of shotshells.

I picked up the sealed carton, bought it, and walked out of the store. Wasn't until I got home and opened the carton that I realized I'd been screwed with 20 round boxes. While my fault for not paying closer attention, up until that point I'd never seen or heard of 20 round boxes, so it wasn't in my experience to even look for that.

How about The Incredible Shrinking Tuna Can, They used to be 7 oz., now 5 oz. Price might be close, but you've lost over 25% of content.

There's only one way to get ammo prices back to reasonable. Stop Paying Unreasonable Prices. But, That's not going to happen anytime soon.
Stupidity over Common Sense is the rule of today.

Except that it does not really work out that way. There is no stable equilibrium where everyone simply refuses to buy ammo until it has fallen significantly in price. Everyone is incentivized to cheat on the system, and you don't end up with any impact.

I read some time ago that India had enacted some laws on container sizes to combat this issue. The idea being that you had to sell products in certain sizes, for example, Ice Cream could be sold by the Gallon, Half Gallon, Quart, Pint, or Cup, but not by any bizarre fraction of them, thus making it impossible to hide the inflation in size changes.
Applied to Ammo, this could be something like 50 rounds to a box for pistol ammo, or a 2^x multiple of that (100 rounds, 200, 400, etc). Maybe time to write the congressmen and ask to an end to ammo shrinkflation.

Exactly. I see on FB groups primers and powder posted and within minutes its all gone. If someone pays $125-brick of primers or $40-box of 9mm blazer and you don't need it for say a training class, no ammo, etc. They are a complete moron and causing all the issues. These guys on GB buying stuff for $40 to sell for $150-200 brick can shove it right up their. I visit Cabelas 2x a week for something to do between appointments seeing how its right next door. I see guys grabbing the limit of $30 9mm and even talking about changing shirts and coming back in for more. I stopped shooting because I refuse to pay the prices.
