Opinion of Sig Sauer Pistols

I have the .40 P226 police trade in, my go to gun. had a problem at first with my reloads. gun shot 6 inches high, and knowing it was a police gun I figured it should be right on target. figured out my reloads were too slow and the barrel would start its upward recoil before the bullet was out of the barrel. loaded my reloads a little hotter and now on target.

I'm pretty much the same way; the grip frame of he P226, while manageable, was still a bit of reach mainly because of my small hands. The E2 grips made the gun feel much more ergonomic and was one of the reasons I bought it (that and I got a great deal on it)!

BB, you also have the thin trigger, which is another thing I prefer. I think it makes for a shorter reach.

Sig USA is on my don’t buy list.

They got one bad mark with a P250 that had intermittent FTEx that they never could fix and that eventually replaced with a P229.

The 2nd strike was a Sig 556R (7.62x39) that had the charging handle striking the receiver. Sent it back and they said it couldn’t be fixed. Sig replaced it with a 556 (556 NATO) which wasn’t what I needed. Sig told me that that was my problem.

I sold the 556 and won’t buy from Sig 556 since then.

A friend of mine has one of their new AR typeproprietary rifles that had a bad bolt carrier part. Sig no longer supports that model and that part is proprietary to that rifle.

At this point I’m down to a P226 and a P230 (which is also no longer supported with spare parts).

For the record I don't own nor have I ever owned a Sig. I have shot plenty of them and I am an agency armorer for the "Legacy" line and the P320. They are good inside and out and perform well. I just wanted to clear that up.

I moved to Sigs from Glocks almost 20 years ago. Never had one fail to go bang. I run about 100 - 200 rds a week through them. Best pistols IMHO.

I also have a P400 11.5" 5.56 pistol for HD.

Just sold this .40 S&W to a good friend who fell in love with it and shoots it well:

What the heck kind of bs is that?

I’ve always liked Sig pistols and couldn’t wait for the polymer frame guns to come out. Boy was I disappointed. It was like Sig was putting out guns with very little testing and evaluation, and relying on the public to do it for them.
When the P320 came out, I really liked it, but I decided to wait and see if problems would show up after it had been in the hands of shooters. Good thing that I waited. Some seem to forget about the P320 going off when dropped. Just think what would have happened if that had happened with Glock.
But Sig fixed the problem and the P320 is doing good. When the M17 model was offered as a standard production gun, I bought one. I really like it and it shoots great.

When the Marines adopted the M18, I bought one. I haven’t shot it much yet, but I do like it.

Now I really wanted to like the P365, but it just doesn’t feel good in my hands, holding or shooting it. But I think that it’s a great gun.

I had a P250 Compact- the first and only polymer gun Ive ever owned- and considered it superior to the early P320s I tried.
My buddy kept pestering me to sell it to him and I finally did, but would snap up another if one came along.
Grudgingly gotta admit, it was a pretty nice gun.

I like the P series guns, a lot. I currently have 3 P226's, an ex NYPD DAO converted to DA/SA, a "regular" P226, and a P226 SSE (Stainless Steel Elite). I have a P229 no rail, and a P220 that is a LE trade in from somewhere, I've never found out where. Only the NYPD gun had any real wear showing on it when I got it.

The plastic ones? Not interested.

My go to carry is a 365. Not found another micro compact I can shoot nearly as good. I have a full size 320, shoot my bros 320 compact and dads XL fairly regularly. Have my sights(pardon the awful pun) on an STX. Might go for one of their bolt guns as well. I think I need a snakebite too. And… ok ya I like sig. :)

I had a really high opinion of Sig pistols.....until they gave the website a face lift, started discontinuing models, stopped selling parts and magazines for those discontinued models, began cutting caliber options from their lineup, and started pushing polymer striker fired guns.

Even the SP2022 and P250 seemed pretty decent for more budget conscious offerings. But the P320 and subsequent military contract ended the Sig Sauer I knew and respected.

I used to carry Sig pistols such as the P229, P239, P220 and P224. But after they began discontinuing models and cutting out the cartridge options I liked, I decided to make the switch to Glock before I ever needed the support Sig was no longer willing to offer.

Not to get too dramatic, but they abandoned me and the guns I purchased. So they don't get any more of my money.

Love 'em!!!!

The "Not SIG of old" thing is silly. The P series has had some changes; I dislike the shape of the top and rear of the slides. The P Series guns still work and don't have issues. The P365 and P320 had some bugs that have been since worked out. From what I can see, the P365 is probably taking over the concealed carry market and the P320 is obviously taking off. The military contracts only enhance its popularity. SIG continues to make the same mistake of offering too many variants; it's like they cannot help themselves.

I think they'll support discontinued guns for awhile. Markets change, of course, and if the P239 and some of the other models and variants no longer sold well, then it makes sense that SIG would discontinue them. Who knew that those rainbow finished guns would sell for so much now??!?!!

But implying that the guns are not good is disingenuous.

Depends on your definition of "support". If you mean that they'll replace all the springs, lube the guns and replace a magazine, if you pay them a whole bunch of money and send them the gun, then yes, they will. I have asked.

If you mean that they will sell a customer a recoil spring or magazine for (let's say a P224), you'd be dead wrong! They won't. I have asked.

If they want to discontinue models, that's their choice. But as far as I'm concerned, if I can't buy basic consumable parts (they consider magazines consumables btw, I have asked) for those guns, I'm not buying any new models from them that they can choose to discontinue and stop supporting. Not that I want to pay to beta test their guns for them anyway.

Yeah, that's bad. They should be supporting guns they made.

I have p239's in .40 and .357 Sig, used to have one in 9mm, love them. Have shot 226's and like them. The Sig manual of arms of the p22x series, DA/SA with decocker only, is my favorite and I wish all my guns were like that. I expect I will buy more. Also have a p238. I'm not a cocked and locked guy, but the p238 is impressive in how well it is put together and is the softest shooting .380 I have ever shot.

I've owned to many guns to count. SigSauer has been the top for decades. The 226 was one of the finest. If you like fabulous looking guns look up a Sig Sauer X5 Stainless, it maybe the best looking gun I've ever seen but the problem is it about $4000.
I have a problem with wanting to customize my guns and now I have 4 SS P320's that I have customized the way I want. The P320 is the very best gun to customize because it's a MODULAR HANDGUN. MeaningIt has a FCU (fire control unit in it that's the serialized part that easily comes out in seconds. All other parts are not seralized and can be bought without a FFL. Anyway the P320 is accurate, reliable gun that tuff to beat for the money, lots of sizes and calibers. The 226,220,210,320 can't be beat

Not arguing with you about the 320, great gun. We have some, including an X5 model. But what is an "SS" P320?

I have 2 - a P365 which is my EDC, and I love it. Also have a 938 that I sometimes carry (more so in the summer). I will say this - years ago I bought a slightly used P226 DAO in .40 - and the trigger on it was horrendous. I traded that for an XDM Tactical in .40 and got cash back. One of the best deals I ever made...

I’ve had good experiences with all my SIG pistols. I’ve got the P210A, P226R Nitron, P220R Nitron, P227R Nitron, P365, M17, and M18.

They are all incredibly accurate and reliable. The only issue I had was a small spot on the back of the P365 slide (one that I didn’t notice until I returned from the store and closely inspected the gun) that appeared to have not been finished. An email to SIG explaining the issue resulted in SIG sending me a prepaid label so that I could recurring the slide. Within about 2 weeks I had a properly finished slide (not sure if they sent a new one or refinished the one that I returned. Things happen and I think SIG handled it very professionally.

I like what I've had in my hands: 225, 226, 228, 229 (owned), 2022 (own) and the 1911 Target (own). I intend to buy back a 229.
