Two SIGs, or not two SIgs, that's the question

No, that's just a joke, and here's the real question

In a reference book, under what country SIG-Sauer P220 and later mistols must be listed - Switzerland or Germany?

I know, P220 and probably p225 were designed in Switzerland, but, if i'm not mistaken, most production and all later refinements were made in Germany.

What's your opinions, and what reasons for put them under either country?

It was my understanding that the Swiss government did not allow the export sales of weapons (to the public/civilians). SIG affiliated with JP Sauer and Sons and made them from Germany for export.

Actually, SIG bought significant stocks of Sauer in 1976, and completely purchased it in 1980.

But i'm still undecided :banghead:

Well, mine says made in West Germany.

To say that SIG designed the gun and Sauer manufactured it for world sales is to not give J.P. Sauer enough credit. Ever see a WW II Sauer 38H? It is pretty obvious where the design concepts for separate breechblock and left side decocking lever came from. I think the main thing SIG did was to design the overall package for extensive use of stamped parts, Swiss watchmaker image to the contrary.
