I actually bought a firearm. A S&W Shield in .30 Super Carry. Passed on a pristine S&W Model 19 (one of my grail guns) for $1100. Came across the .30 Super Carry a few minutes later. I have a .380 EZ which I really like and have read the reviews, both pro and con, on the new model and decided to take a chance. Dealer even threw in two boxes of ammo.

I have never even heard of this caliber until I saw this post. And it's made by a large manufacturer too.

Not bad, we can only have 10 rounds here so some of the ultra capacity guns are about pointless.
I'm old school and for years I've daily carried a five shot late 50's manufactured S&W Model 36 Chiefs Special snub. Have a few handguns with double stack and plus twenty capability. With full mags they are too heavy for EDC. Range and home defense only.

And unnecessarily fat.

As a self-proclaimed 1911 fan you should also be aware that the 1911 is unnecessarily fat for 9mm, 38 Super, 9X23, 10mm, 40 S&W. That's a good reason to not buy one in those bastard calibers. Right? I mean, it's not like those calibers have anything over the 45. Like equal or more power, and added capacity.

You'd think Colt would have redesigned the gun before they started their sinful act when they chambered it in .38 Automatic in 1928/9. Shame on them.

What nonsense.

Compare apples and oranges much? The 1911 is a full-size service handgun where concealability was not a concern.

The .30 SC pistols on the market should be made thinner due to the smaller diameter cartridges. Instead, what we have available are 9mm sized guns with 9mm slide widths with frames designed to hold a double stack of 9mm rounds.

Companies are going to have to offer guns properly sized for the new smaller cartridge if they want to stand out, because concealability IS a factor for this class of firearm, i.e. a CONCEALED carry weapon.

So no one uses a 1911 as their concealed carry gun? I didn't know that. Thanks for pointing that out.

Of the three guns I'm aware of chambered in 30 SC, one is a double stack (S&W Shield Plus) and two are single stacks (S&W EZ, Nighthawk Custom 1911s). So, you're wrong 2 out of 3.

Your’re too much, thanks for the laughs guy!

I've concealed a P226 IWB but I wouldn't recommend it for that purpose. A 1911 is a fine carry gun and lots of guys carry it. Usually an LCP is what I think of for concealed, with P365/Hellcat being about as big as I would consider. My G26 is huge and the largest gun I CCW now. Looking back, not sure how I managed to haul a P226 around for a year.

The S&W 30 SC looks like the best one available, and I sure hope we get more. It's a neat idea for a round that maybe doesn't sell me a pistol instantly but which I will consider as time progresses; I've mostly been concerned by the noise of such a high pressure round but it seems it's no worse than 9mm so maybe not great but acceptable.

I recently watched the latest Paul Harrell video on .30 Super and while I'm sure there will be more and better performing hollow point ammo, I'm really not impressed by this caliber. It doesn't have any reduction in recoil (even I can feel the difference in recoil between .327 and .357 Mag), it holds very few extra rounds in the mag (capacity is overrated when almost all defensive shootings use less than 6 rounds), and the ammo is going to be difficult to source.

I don't understand how companies can spend precious resources on a brand new caliber that offers nothing over already established calibers while something like .32 NAA, which is an improvement in every way over .380, is totally disregarded.

Had S&W started making guns in .32 NAA and Federal the ammo, there would likely be a lot more interest.
