Mine is situational...and you don't have an option for me to check both!

Being a federal worker for the Department of the Navy, most all of my work places I cannot bring a firearm...that includes into any facilities at all. I cannot enter any public shipyards, I cannot enter any Naval installations or bases, etc. Which means I don't even have the option of keeping mine in my vehicle.

But other places? Depends on the jurisdictional laws. If it's not legal for me to enter posted establishment, then I likely won't go there at all. If postings don't carry the weight of law, then I likely ignore them. If it's a government establishment that I need to enter for some reason, then I'll not have it with me. (Like traffic court, for example.)

Depends on where I'm going. Court house visit to pay taxes or transfer a car title, I keep the holster on but lock the weapon up in my trunk. A store or other business that prohibits it just doesn't get my business.

Well, I have to go to the post office sometimes. And the building wherein the CCW permits are issued. Sometimes there's just no real choice.

Beyond that, I do choose to occasionally go places that don't allow guns and also aren't truly necessary. For example, I'm not going to ruin the family vacation when the amusement park turns out to have metal detectors.

In general, of course, if a private business has a "No firearms" sign posted, I appreciate being told up front that I don't like their politics, and happily go somewhere else.

Because of my work and lifestyle I have daily situations that require me to proceed without my pistol. It's simply not feasible for me to carry 100% of the time without breaking felony laws so over the years I've developed a program for myself by using situational awareness, nonlethal defenses and a quick detach holster that allows me some level of flexible security throughout the day.
A gun toting paramedic friend of mine once told me, I was more likely to save a life with a tourniquet then with a gun. Just an opinion for sure but I carry a blood stop kit everyday, everywhere, and I carry my pistol when I legally can.

Naw, not really.

With the notable exception of going on to my local military bases. Only on-duty law enforcement on official business can carry on to bases. As a retiree, I have to disarm when I go to medical appointments at Madigan on Ft. Lewis, my VA clinic, or shopping at the Navy commissaries and exchanges. So, once a week usually, I make a there-and-back trip with no carry gun or firearm in the vehicle.

Oh, and in Washington, only on-duty LE can pack in the stadiums for sporting events, so I don't go to many pro football, hockey or baseball games in Seattle. And I don't go to bars.

As others have said, that poll is lacking.
I don't go to ballgames, concerts, movies, (entertainment) where being disarmed is part of the "entertainment"; I don't "need" that.
I do not have to go to military bases, no "need" for that.
If I have to go to a hospital, that is going to be in the "need" category; yea, I'm going to disarm to go there if "needed".
Being armed all day does not interfere with my typical day (retired), define that as you wish.

Bonus material:
Though retired and living in a "good area" in the FL heat, I carry a handgun I'd prefer to defend myself with anywhere, everywhere.
To elaborate, on a "quick trip to the store" in a "good area" would I prefer to defend myself with a pocket 380 or Glock 17? Glock 17.
Am I saying I carry a Glock 17 size handgun everywhere, everyday, in the FL heat despite being in a "good area"? Yup.
Am I implying that others should strive to carry a handgun they would prefer anywhere, everywhere? Yea, that was the point of bonus material.

^This. Same goes for me as a SETA contractor working on an Army base.

What I do in reality: I follow the LAW as it applies to places I need to go where I will be arrested if caught, I don't get overly concerned with "establishment policies" that don't have the force of law, and in the case of places like starbucks, target, and chipotle, I choose to spend my $ with people who look PAST our differences. Besides, I don't drink coffee, Wal Mart is closer and better, and I avoid places with a pattern of giving customers food poisoning. That's not to mention bathroom confusion.

My carry guns and habits are discreet. Sometimes I am too lazy to disarm for a quick trip inside certain buildings.
I always disarm inside a school or at a school function.

I dont like going places that search you and your stuff...like ballparks, arenas, concerts, etc. Its not so muchthat i can't carry....I just dont like that many people. I'm not a people person. I feel like a sheep in those places.

Some of my customers put up 30.06 signage and have security with metal detectors. Mostly, big oil and gas firms do this around here. If I were to be discovered carrying, it's probable that I wouldn't get to make money off them anymore. That would reduce my income enough to be noticeable.

Of course, some of my customers are military bases, schools, court houses, police departments, city halls, etc. So I don't carry in those places either for the same reason as above plus the possible criminal charge.

The question, as pointed out, is naive. Do I go into my kid's school (when she was in school)? My doc's officers and hospitals had 30.06 signs. So no medical care or risk it? I prefer to see my doctors. Going for a burger, sure - lots of options. Seeing a cardiologist not so much.

I'd ditch a house of worship though with ban signs.

I used to work at the Old Madigan AMC.

The only place I really go that is posted is the VA. In addition to being a federal crime I would be willing to bet that if I were caught with a gun on VA property I lose my disability benefits and my pension. That's not worth it to me. I go to the VA unarmed.

Actually, when I go to the VA it's usually for an exercise class or doctor's appointment and I'm wearing sweats anyway

Please describe the complexity that the poll missed.

-Stan

First of all, more than one person is telling you is that this poll is unrealistic. That should be a clue.

Second, there is posted and there is illegal to carry here. I said it in another post but the only place I go that's posted really is the VA. That's a federal crime I'm not playing with it. If my local Walmart was posted I wouldn't worry about it so much
